Everybody wants to drive a real car like you would in a video game, smashing through the city streets with little regard for anything but your destination, but what about driving a video game car in real life?
Well, the developers behind the upcoming video game Cyberpunk 2077 had the same question, so they commissioned one to be built.
A little background: Cyberpunk 2077 is set in a dystopian future, where electronics permeate every part of daily life.
In the game, players can drive a car known as the Quadra Type-66, which features styling borrowed from classic muscle cars of the 1960s and early 1970s.
In real life, the team at Rockstar Performance Garage didn’t have to make as much “borrowing,” as their recreation of the virtual vehicle already started with a very similar-looking car as a donor — a 1970 Ford Mustang fastback.
The team acquired the vehicle with just 37,000 miles on the clock and added a futuristic-looking grille that covers the headlights and a bunch of wild vinyl graphics. Inside, the steering wheel has been replaced with a three-spoke unit, and there are custom seats.
The Mustang is powered by its original 289-cubic-inch V8, but it’s had several performance modifications done to it: fuel injection has been added, there’s a Magnaflow exhaust system, it rides on a full coilover suspension, and there are disc brakes all around. A set of Rotiform wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson tires keep the whole thing planted.
The best part about the vehicle is the fact that it’s free to own! Well, that is, it could be, if you enter the contest put on by the developer.
