The success of an upcoming console launch largely depends on future game releases, and here is what the Xbox Series X and S have in store for owners.

The Xbox Series X and S will be releasing on November 10th, 2020 and fans can’t wait to get their hands on the next-gen consoles. Though the launch lineup is lacking a true exclusive system seller, it is being carried by several stellar third-party published titles like Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Yakuza: Like A Dragon.

Investing early in a console is often decided by consumers based on what the future of the platform holds. Let’s now take a look at ten highly anticipated games that will help sell the Xbox Series X and S.

Though Moon Studios isn’t a household name, both Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps have made two of the most remarkable games on the Xbox One family of consoles. Their craftsmanship when building Metroidvania platformers and the level of detail in their animations is top-tier. In many ways, their games are the closest thing gamers have had to a Pixar film. The power of the Xbox Series X will only improve the already outstanding art and visual language in their games and fans are waiting on pins and needles for the confirmation of a third game in the series.

Undead Labs is a smaller developer who has seen exponential growth since being acquired by Microsoft. State of Decay 2 was in many ways an evolution of the successful things they did with their breakout indie hit which was the first game in the series. At this point, fans are expecting the studio to take that leap into triple-A game development and hope the first evidence of that is with State of Decay 3. A solid triple-A zombie survival game could do wonders for Xbox as a centerpiece next-gen exclusive on their platform.

Fallout as a franchise is in a very weird place right now. On top of Fallout 4 not doing much more than delivering more of the Fallout 3 experience, the series saw the release of a games-as-service title that was released in a terrible place.

With Bethesda and Obsidian Entertainment under the same umbrella, many fans want the latter to have another crack at the series. When Fallout 5 is inevitably announced and revealed it will immediately become one of the most anticipated releases on the next-gen Xbox consoles.

When Microsoft went on a spree of acquiring game developers, one of the more shocking additions was Ninja Theory. The once independent studio was viewed as an indie developer who loved existing that way and knew how to navigate the landscape of games as such. Financial security is important though and sometimes, given the right partner, it’s a no-brainer of a choice. Hellblade 2 looks to build on the critically-acclaimed first game and with Xbox’s budget and resources behind them, could easily be a Game of the Year contender.

The Initiative is a game studio positioned in Santa Monica, California, and is made up of industry veterans who have played a role in the release of some of the industry’s most defining and jaw-dropping releases. The studio is advertised as a premier studio looking to make industry-defining games. Rumors have swirled that their game, which is in a playable state, is related to the Perfect Dark franchise in some way. With all the hype and speculation surrounding it, the expectations might be impossible to meet.

The Elder Scrolls VI seems to be years away if Bethesda Game Studios and their leader Todd Howard are to be believed. They’ve already stated that their new science fiction IP called Starfield will be their next release, in a move to bring their audience to an understanding. It’s currently unclear where exactly the game will take place, though eagle-eyed fans have made their attempts at predicting where it might be. One glance at The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s sales and popularity will show you how important this title will be to Xbox’s next-gen success.

Little is known about Bethesda Game Studios’ next major release, Starfield. All anyone knows is that it will be their first foray into space-focused science fiction, as the studio has made a name for itself with its high-fantasy role-playing series Elder Scrolls and the post-apocalyptic juggernaut that is Fallout.

It’s unclear if it will be an Xbox exclusive, or release multi-platform but even if it happens to be the latter, the fact it will release free into Xbox Game Pass on launch day will move the purchase of Xbox Series X’s on store shelves.

When Microsoft acquired Obsidian Entertainment everyone knew why it happened. Those developers are some of the best at making incredible Western role-playing games that provide a sense of exploration, well-crafted writing, and incredibly paced storylines. Avowed, their upcoming high-fantasy role-playing game, was revealed at Microsoft’s Xbox Series X event and it immediately wowed everyone. It may be years before it’s released, but it’s hard to deny the level of anticipation Xbox gamers have for what could be Obsidian’s studio defining release.

Now, originally the plan was for Halo: Infinite to be the premier launch title for the Xbox Series X, but due to a decision to delay the game into 2021 the waiting game is now on. Halo 5 wasn’t received particularly well on the narrative side of things but did feature what many felt was the franchise’s best multiplayer suite. It’s unclear if Halo: Infinite will drop in early or late 2021, but either way, fans will be clamoring to spend some time with Master Chief. Here’s hoping it returns the Halo series to the mega-franchise it once was.

For years it seems Playground Games was rumored to be working on the next entry in the Fable series. After years of releasing genre-defining entries in the Forza Horizon series and being acquired by Microsoft, they were handed the reigns to one of the most beloved role-playing game franchises in gaming. Their ties to British culture and the humor that defines Fable made them ideal candidates and gamers can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeve. Fable will likely play a key role in the success of the Xbox Series X.
