First Date viewers couldn’t help but fall in love with 60-year-old Meryl after she recalled the heartbreak of losing her husband.
Meryl, from the Wirral, has been single for 11 years, and turned to the Channel 4 show to find love again – and after meeting Andrew, 60, it looks like she may have.
Ahead of her date, Meryl explained to the camera that she was looking for a ‘tubby’ man who was ‘bald’.
Despite insulting Andrew during their meal by telling him looked like a pudding, the couple seemed to get on like a house on fire.
As they spoke about their lives and previous relationships, Meryl told Andrew about how she lost her husband Tom.
‘He said he was going to a five-aside and then I got a phone call to say “Tom doesn’t feel very good”.
Speaking to the camera afterwards, poor Meryl teared up as she detailed how Tom had a heart attack and tragically died.
As she choked back the tears Meryl recalled how she lay with him after he had died and she didn’t want to leave him there.
She added: ‘I am leaving him and he’s cold and he hated being cold, I just wanted to go back and have one more hug. He was just special, so special.’
Taking to social media after Meryl and Andrew’s date, viewers just couldn’t help but fall in love with the couple.
One viewer tweeted: ‘Meryl and Andrew are going on a second date 2020 isn’t that f***ing bad. They deserve the world that couple.’
I am desperate to go to bed and sleep, but my heart just got thoroughly invested in Meryl and Andrew #FirstDates @Channel4
