Spotify and Apple Music’s ongoing feature battle continues, with the former finally adding a lyrics search feature which Apple Music users have had for a couple of years. Spotify now lets users search for songs by their lyrics on its iOS and Android apps.
Though users can find what song they’re playing through music recognition apps like Shazam, they usually require the song to be played. The feature seems pretty straightforward, as users need to type in some lyrics into the app’s search bar, and Spotify will return matching songs. These songs will have a “Lyrics match” tag, as seen from the embedded tweet from Lin Wang, a designer at Spotify.

This isn’t the only lyrics-related integration that the firm has added recently. In June, Spotify announced a partnership with Musixmatch to bring real-time lyrics support to 26 markets globally, including India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Brazil, and more.
Apple Music had added this ability back in 2018 with iOS 12. The news comes in quick succession to Spotify updating its Collaborative Playlist feature earlier this week in a bid to make the app easier to use.
