Spelunky 2, the long-anticipated sequel to the brilliant procedural platformer, is coming to PC just a couple of weeks after it debuts on PS4.

Of all the things that were revealed on the State of Play a few weeks ago, Spelunky 2’s release date was one of the most universally exciting. (Well, that and Bugsnax, obviously.)

Originally slated for 2019 but pushed back by developer Derek Yu, citing the “density and detail of the game… demanding more time”, Spelunky 2 is set to release on PS4 on September 15, 2020. It’s unsurprising, given it was a PlayStation event, but no other release dates were offered for Spelunky 2.

But not long later – and with not long to wait – Yu has taken to Twitter to reveal the Spelunky 2 PC release date:

We have a date! #Spelunky2 is coming to Steam on September 29. Wishlist the game here to get a notification as soon as it releases:https://t.co/c6WKBfDRsh

But that’s a PC release date of September 29, 2020 – just two weeks behind the PS4 release of Spelunky 2.

If any game can test the resolve of the “I’ll play it when it comes out on Nintendo Switch” people, it’s got to be Spelunky 2, right?

Next week’s list of new PlayStation 4 releases includes an RPG remaster, a high school adventure, and content expansions for three big games.

What do you get if you combine the creative talents of R. A. Salvatore, Todd McFarlane, and Grant Kirkhope with the financial acumen of Curt Schilling? Yep, Kingdoms of Amalur is back in a new remaster from Kaiko and THQ Nordic. There’s a decent role-playing game in here. Let’s hope the updated version smooths off the rough edges and lets it shine.

Other new PS4 releases include Necromunda: Underhive Wars, the first adaptation of Games Workshop’s popular tabletop war game, and EVC’s lovely high school tactical RPG, Wintermoor Tactics Club. We also have our eyes on two promising racing games: Hotshot Racing and Inertial Drift.

Budding game makers can look forward to the console version of RPG Maker MV. We reviewed the Nintendo Switch edition, and despite some niggles, we enjoyed our first steps to becoming a game developer.

Finally, there are new content expansions for Borderlands 3 and The Outer Worlds, plus a Star Wars-themed game pack for The Sims 4.

We’ll update this post throughout the week if we receive news of any late additions. Here are the new PS4 releases confirmed so far.

Save up to 80% in the Steam Alien franchise sale. (Yes, it says “franchise” and it’s really only Alien: Isolation that anyone cares about, but that’s OK.)

Save up to 80% in the Steam Alien franchise sale. (Yes, it says “franchise” and it’s really only Alien: Isolation that anyone cares about, but that’s OK.)

Sometimes, we write about a franchise sale and there are too many games to choose from. Something like Assassin’s Creed or Final Fantasy, for instance, have lots of games to choose from.

The Alien franchise sale, which is live right now on Steam, has three games to choose from. And, let’s be honest, you only want to play one of them. But the one you do want to play? It’s a properly great one.

That would be Alien: Isolation, the claustrophobic horror featuring Ellen Ripley’s daughter and everyone’s favourite xenomorph. You can save 75% on Alien: Isolation and all of its DLC, and if you buy it as part of the overall Alien franchise bundle, it’s a total of 80% off.

But you probably don’t want the other games in the bundle, Alien VS Predator or Aliens: Colonial Marines. Not even for 80% off.

A busy week of new Xbox One releases is headlined by RPG remaster, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. The game was somewhat overshadowed on its original release by the circumstances surrounding its funding, and the subsequent fate of Curt Schilling’s 38 Studios. It received a mixed critical reception in 2012, so it will be interesting to see how it fares in its new updated form.

Other new Xbox One releases include the gorgeous polygonal retro racer Hotshot Racing, and the console debut of indie actioner, Party Hard 2. Dontnod’s Tell Me Why also draws to a close with its third and final chapter.

Three big games also receive intergalactic expansions next week. Star Wars comes to The Sims 4 with the Journey to Batuu expansion, and players of The Outer Worlds can investigate the Peril on Gorgon. Meanwhile, Borderlands 3 players can look forward to Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck.

Each new game can be purchased from the Xbox One digital games store or the Microsoft web store. We’ll update this post throughout the week with any late additions.

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that The Witcher III: Wild Hunt is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that The Witcher III: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2021.

Exact details are light, but the studio has confirmed that the next-generation version of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt will boast a range of technical improvements including improved load times and support for ray tracing.

The game will be released as a standalone purchase which features all previously released DLC and content expansions. Existing owners of the game on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the new edition for free. How lovely.

A release date for the next-gen version of The Witcher III has yet to be confirmed. In the meantime, we’ll just have to make do with the studio’s next RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, which will debut on current-gen platforms on November 19, 2020.
