After the recent successful release of the SEGA Genesisi Mini and the Game Gear Micro in Japan, word is that the next console to get re-released will be the Dreamcast.
In an interview with Japanese gaming publication Famitsu, Sega’s mini chief Yosuke Okunari said that fans could expect another classic console very soon. “I think for the next one, we may go with a concept close to the Mega Drive Mini. If I have to say some names, it could be an SG-1000 Mini or a Dreamcast Mini…”
Given that the SG-1000 was a very limited release console from SEGA in 1983 (it pre-dates the Sega Master System) it’s thought that the mini version of the Dreamcast is far more likely than an SG-1000.
Okunari did say that the next mini console – whatever it may be – will take some time to produce. According to Okunari, .”The Game Gear Micro is only sold domestically in Japan. When we do the next one, I feel like the project scope will be much bigger as we gaze upon the world. So we won’t be able to release it at this time the next year or two years after the Mega Drive Mini. We can’t make it that quickly [laughs].
In other news, Microsoft has unveiled the first commercial for its next-generation Xbox Series S and Series X consoles.
It tapped Get Out actor Daniel Kaluuya for the video, which sees the actor travelling from his at-home entertainment center to several locations featured in many of the Xbox’s most notable games.
