Halloween has come to Pokémon Go, beginning special bonuses, research tasks and even new costume Pokémon for you to collect.
Ghost-type Pokémon have overtaken the map, appearing more frequently in the wild and in raids, and there’s even a special Go Battle League Cup for Halloween!
There’s also two new research questlines – a Timed Research questline that will reward you with Mega Gengar candy and a new Special Research quest, entitled A Spooky Message Unmasked.
Throughout the Halloween event in Pokémon Go, you’ll be able to collect and complete a number of exclusive field research tasks by spinning PokéStops.
Thank you to SilphScience from reddit for the help with this information!
Any task you collect will remain in your field research cache until you either complete or delete it, even after the Halloween event ends. Once the event ends, however, you will no longer receive Halloween themed field research tasks from spinning PokéStops.
You also enjoy receiving double candy for both catching and transferring Pokémon throughout the Halloween event. This makes the Halloween event the perfect time to clean out your Pokémon Storage and, maybe, add any missing ghost-types to your Pokédex.
Like the exclusive field research tasks, these bonuses will end when the Halloween event does on Tuesday, 3rd November at the following times:
It wouldn’t be a proper Pokémon Go Halloween event without a new selection of exclusive costume Pokémon.
In raids, you’ll find Gengar wearing a costume inspired by Mega Banette, while Sableye wearing Litwick style hats will appear in the wild and hatch from eggs.
Finally, if you take part in the Halloween Cup, you might earn the chance to catch one of the costumed Kanto starters – Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle – from last year’s Halloween event.
October has seen the return of the monthly Rocket quest with An Inter-egg-sting Development, as well as the release of new ‘Strange’ red eggs, new Arlo, Cliff, Sierra and Giovanni line-ups.
2020 has seen several new features in Pokémon Go – Mega Evolutions, the A Mega Discovery Special Research, the arrival of Rocket Balloons, the Go Battle League, Remote Raids and the trade evolution feature.
Pokemon Go also sees regular events – including weekly Spotlight Hour, monthly Field Research rewards and Pokémon Go Community Day.
Aside from the field research tasks, there’s also two new research questline for you to enjoy during this year’s Halloween event in Pokémon Go.
The first is a Timed Research quest, which will only be available during the Halloween event, and will reward you with Mega Gengar candy. This quest, however, will only be available to players who completed the previous Timed Research quest, Mega Buddy Challenge.
The second is A Spooky Message Unmasked, which is a new Special Research quest and available to all players. Completing the challenges in this research quest will give you the chance to catch a Galarian Yamask and Spiritomb. While this quest has no deadline, we do recommend playing Pokémon Go during the Halloween event to ensure you unlock it.
The Go Battle League is also taking part in the spooky festivities with the special Halloween Cup, which will run from Monday, 26th October to Tuesday, 3rd November. Like previous special cups, such as the Premier Cup, the Pokémon you can use are restricted both by type and CP level.
During the Halloween event, you’ll also be more likely to encounter ghost-type Pokémon in the wild, raids and when you hatch eggs. This includes a special Catch Mastery: Ghost Day on Sunday, 25th October, which will include a set of limited-timed research tasks.
Some of the Pokémon that appear more frequently in the wild throughout the Halloween event are:
Darkrai will also be returning to five-star raids and on Halloween itself, Saturday 31st October, you’ll be able to partake in Alolan Marowak Raid Day.
Finally, you can dress your avatar up in a range of new Halloween clothing, including a new pose and Pokémon masks.
