Next week on 23rd September, the Nintendo Switch Online service adds four more retro titles. All up, there are three SNES games and one NES title.

Most noticeably is the addition of Rare’s 1995 release Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest. The two other games for SNES include Mario’s Super Picross by Jupiter and The Peace Keepers by Jaleco. Last but not least is Natsume’s sci-fi shoot ’em up S.C.A.T.:Special Cybernetic Attack Team for the NES.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest – Kaptain K. Rool and his Kremlings have kidnapped Donkey Kong. Enter Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong, who are ready to brave the seas to save our hairy hero. Diddy Kong’s Cartwheel can sprint him across a distance, while Dixie Kong’s Helicopter Spin will let her float from high places. Play solo or with a friend in eight exciting worlds. All aboard, and let’s set sail!

Mario’s Super Picross – Use numbers as clues and chisel away squares to bring a hidden image to the surface, with Mario cheering you on as you progress through the game’s puzzles. You can get a friend in on the excavation too. Two chisels are better than one! This puzzle game launched on the Super Famicom™ system in 1995 and has never been released in the U.S. until now. You can view a video tutorial to help you dive into the game here.

The Peace Keepers – The DM Corp is responsible for a new string of troubling incidents. It’s up to Flynn and his crew to rise up and stop them. Progress through each stage by executing on the deep action gameplay and unleashing each character’s unique super attacks. The story changes based on the route you take!

S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team– In the year 2029, Supreme Commander Vile Malmort and his army land on Earth, aiming for world domination. Your main objective is to send these alien invaders packing. Blast and fly through relentless enemies and bosses while collecting new weapons, speed boosts and life recoveries. Get ready, soldier. You’re Earth’s only hope.

When he’s not paying off a loan to Tom Nook, Liam likes to report on the latest Nintendo news and admire his library of video games. His favourite Nintendo character used to be a guitar-playing dog, but nowadays he prefers to hang out with Judd the cat.

Wow, Nintendo listened to their fans and brought a loved game to the switch, for once? I’m surprised.

….Meh. Even with a decent SNES game…I’m kinda just sick of the NSO stuff. Still would rather just hook up my SNES Classic and play the games that way anyways…

Will also check out Mario’s Super Picross. Perhaps this brings hope for an international release of Kirby’s Star Stacker?

Good stuff. DKC2 is a classic always worth replaying. Never played Super Picross, really enjoyed the GB one on 3DS VC. Nice update. 👍

Any chance we can keep these games after Nintendo takes down the Switch online service years from now?

@Don I’ve been wondering that myself. I would hope when the Switch is done and over with that they’d just let us keep them.

@Gamer_Mario002 I’m ready. I might have to divert from my Mario marathon a bit to play DKC2.

Only took about 14 years but after skipping the American Virtual Consoles and being on the European and Japan VCs, Mario’s Super Picross finally makes its US debut on a Nintendo download service…..

If they keep this up, then the NSO will redeem itself. I was already fine with it cause of lttp and breath of fire, but this will make it much more appealing. Now about those rumors for super Mario rpg…

Really enjoyed my recent play throughout of the original DKC. Look forward to playing the 2nd. All things considered… it’s not a bad month for the service.

People claiming that the window has closed (Sept.) for Nintendo to add another system, I don’t necessarily agree with. Late 2020 or early 2021 are possible windows of opportunity, given how unpredictable the company has been. Also they might want to add another incentive for newcomers to the system (people who got the Switch as a holiday gift) to jump in the service.

@NotTelevision I don’t think NL has reported on it yet, but I just read an article that said there’s evidence in the coding of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection that the N64 games potential real-life spoiler if you’re not into leaks Kirby 64, Mario Golf, Paper Mario, Mario Tennis, Perfect Dark, and Pokemon Snap were tested on the in-house emulator.

It’s only a matter of time before they start with the Game Boy and Game Boy Color games with a Game Boy shell for the Switch console itself to slot into.

Or A small handful of the Virtual Boy games with a special replica that the console would slot into alongside a wireless controller with both D-Pads in tact.

Or Game Boy Advance games with a controller built like a original GBA console (just without a functional screen)

Are we all really gonna pretend that we don’t notice that the game’s name is S.C.A.T. or……………………

HAH! The irony is I’ve been playing through DKC2 on the Wii U VC for the first time! Really enjoying the game overall, I like a lot of the changes….But dang is it definitely harder than the first game. Knew most of that one like the back of my hand.

Donkey Kong Country 2 is my favorite SNES game. Still bums me out that it didn’t make the cut on the SNES Mini. But it’s here on Switch now. I like SCAT too… the game that is. 😬

Never played DKC2, so this was a pleasant surprise! I’m still salty and upset that SMT didn’t get on the US VC but oh well );

Still not the titles I’d ask for, but at least the seem to recall the service exists…

The only NES and SNES games I want now are Earthbound and Earthbound Begginings. I would say Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, and Super Mario RPG but Square-Enix is too greedy.

@Lindhardt Greedy is not making popular titles available for free? I suppose I’m greedy for not throwing my money out the window.

“Are you as excited as we are about the return of Donkey Kong Country 2? Tell us down below.”

Not sure why but i thouroghly enjoy dk2 way more than dk1. Im so happy for the news

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest is a top three SNES game for me, it’s a great addition to the service and I’ll def be playing it on the 23rd.

DKC2 is one of the most underrated pure platformers of all time. It’s second only to Super Mario World for its era and I actually like it better than SMW. A huge step up from the original DKC in every way!
