General Motors will take a swing at other electric trucks with the unveiling of the new GMC Hummer this fall.
The presentation date has been set for October 20, at 8:00 p.m. ET, and now a report indicates that the automaker will show it during a major sports event.
According to AutoNews, the zero-emission Hummer will be presented during the first game of baseball’s 2020 World Series, probably in a number of short films that will be released simultaneously on multiple channels.
While the launch is less than two weeks, the new GMC Hummer is about a year away from entering production. The Detroit giant has confirmed that it will start assembling the zero-emission truck next fall with deliveries to commence shortly after, which will make it a 2022 model year.
The pickup’s powertrain is said to deliver a high-end supercar-rivalling 1,000 horsepower and a huge amount of torque, namely 11,500 pound-feet (15,592 Nm). As a result, it will sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) from a standstill in just 3 seconds.
Other details surrounding the powertrain have yet to be confirmed, but GM did say that it will have an all-wheel drive system with a clever feature that will allow it to move diagonally. Dubbed the ‘Crab Mode’, it takes advantage of the fact that the front and rear wheels can steer in the same direction and will enhance the vehicle’s off-road capability.
The actual Tesla Roadster should be able to hit 60 mph in less than 2 seconds.
The MDX Prototype features a digital instrument cluster, stylish leather seats and a modern infotainment system.
