In a response to widespread complaints about the shooting difficulty, 2K implemented a ‘hotfix’ to make things easier for users in some areas of the game. Based on sme of what I’ve seen from members of the community online, there is some slight confusion about which modes were impacted.
I messaged with Mike Wang, the executive producer of gameplay for NBA 2K, and gave a very detailed breakdown of what was affected. He said:
“Rookie and Pro Offline modes (MyCareer, Quick Play, MyGM, MyLeague) were impacted the most. All-Star Offline, Play Now Online, MyTeam Unlimited and Limited also received a minor boost. Triple Threat Online, Park, Pro-Am, and Rec were not impacted at all.”
Essentially, if you’re shooting better in Triple Threat Online, PARK, Pro-Am, Rec, it’s not because of the boost, it’s because you’ve gotten better cards, better attributes, badges, or simply better at the game.
Prior to the hotfix, based on what I was seeing in various streams, social media clips, and personal experience, the user base was getting better at shooting. The impact on MyCareer players is huge because those who choose to grind their badges on Pro difficulty will have more success, though they won’t make as much progress.
If they go with All-Star, there will be some boost, but not as much as the lower setting. In any case, this will assist with the grind. However, they must be prepared for the training wheels to be removed once they take on online competition.
Based on this, the shooting in 2K appears to be a fluid situation, and this is likely setting the table for the mechanic on next-gen. In any case, the level of communication and responsiveness from 2K thus far is refreshing. As I pointed out over the past months, communication had become one of the 2K team’s weakest areas.
