The National Lottery website and mobile app for smartphones and tablets are not loading for users across the UK. The outage has left thousands unable to check the results from the Euromillions draw last night, or enter the Lotto draw scheduled for this evening – with millions of pounds set to be won. Reports are flooding in across social media as baffled users find themselves unable to load the website, regardless of which web browser they’re using or which device they’re using to try to navigate to the webpage.

National Lottery has confirmed the issues that prevent the website from loading on your smartphone, tablet or computer are due to a power outage early this morning. In a tweet confirming the outage, the National Lottery explained: “Due to a power failure in the Watford area this morning, some of our services have been affected – including our website and Contact Centre. We are working to get services back up and running as quickly as possible and are really sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

One user asked the representatives running the official social media account how to best check their Euromillions numbers from last night, with the website and iOS and Android apps not responding in the UK. According to the National Lottery, “Due to a power failure in the Watford area this morning, some of our services have been affected – including our website and Contact Centre. We’re working to get services back up and running as quickly as possible and are really sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

It also appears the terminals required to sell National Lottery tickets in some supermarkets have also been impacted by the outage.

And while the National Lottery says it “hopes” the service will be back up and running at some point today, it says it has no ETA for the fix.

When asked about whether Lotto tickets should now be bought in stores – at least until the website and app are back up-and-running, the official National Lottery account stated: “Some stores are unaffected, however we strongly advise that players only purchase National Lottery products as part of an essential shop.

Users who attempt to load-up the National Lottery website – https://www.national-lottery.co.uk – will find themselves directed to a static status page which reads: “PLEASE BEAR WITH US. Our online services are temporarily unavailable. Sorry about that – we’ll get you back in the game as soon as possible.”

Independent website DownDetector, which tracks outages and issues with online services and web apps with mentions across a variety of social media networks, reports hundreds of people complaining about the problem with the National Lottery website. At its peak, some 565 people complained about the problems every minute.

Adding the social media mentions to a map based on where the person posting originates, the DownDetector data shows that London, Manchester, Oxford, Cambridge and Glasgow appear to be the areas heaviest hit by the latest service outage. The issues kickstarted around 6.35am, according to DownDetector.

Express.co.uk will update this article as soon as there is a fix available. Until then, the best advice comes from the National Lottery officials themselves: “keep checking periodically”.
