The Sun looks like it has adorned a huge, smiling fiery face in a NASA image which the space agency says looks like a jack-o-lantern. NASA released the fearful image of the Sun in the build up to Halloween.
According to the space agency, the Sun gained its temporary features, which look like two eyes and a mouth, through magnetic fields bursting through the surface.
NASA said: “Active regions on the sun combined to look something like a jack-o-lantern’s face on Oct. 8, 2014.
“The active regions appear brighter because those are areas that emit more light and energy — markers of an intense and complex set of magnetic fields hovering in the sun’s atmosphere, the corona.
“This image blends together two sets of wavelengths at 171 and 193 angstroms, typically colourised in gold and yellow, to create a particularly Halloween-like appearance.”
NASA is really getting into spooky season as the space agency has also released a playlist which contains some of the scariest sounds of space.
The playlist, which is available on SoundCloud, allows you to listed to some of the more eerie sounds of the cosmos which you may have never heard.
NASA said: “The lander’s Seismic Experiment for Interior Structure (SEIS) instrument, detected the faint seismic signal in 2019.”

The sound on the playlist contains the sound of the influence the black hole with a mass of four million times that of our Sun has on the inner circle of the Milky Way.
The space agency added: “You may have heard some of the creaks, cracks, and cackling noises of our universe before.
“Using data from our spacecraft, we’ve gathered a NEW collection of sinister sounds from the depths of space in time for Halloween.
“Listen to our SoundCloud Halloween playlist filled with new ‘moans’ and ‘whistles’ from our universe that would scare the most ghoulish of creatures.”
