NetherRealm is releasing a big content update for MK11 later this month – here’s everything we know about the DLC so far
“We’re very excited about what we’ve got coming up,” Ed Boon told us in a briefing regarding the new Mortal Komabt DLC NetherRealm has been working on.
“Not only are we adding new characters, but for the first time NetherRealm is introducing a new story campaign, picking up directly where MK11 left off,” he continued.
These well-produced, cinematic stories are a signature part of the game NetherRealm celebrates and wants players to be invested in, so continuing the MK11 story directly this manner makes a lot of sense – it’s a good value proposition for players that want more than just new characters to be randomly dropped into the game.
Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath will be available for all players on all platforms on May 26th – here’s everything you need to know about the incoming content (or is that kontent ?)
The story, from what we’ve seen so far, puts characters that didn’t get to enjoy too much of the spotlight in the main game the chance to shine.
Kronika’s plans to balance good and evil were defeated during the events of MK11, so she had to rewind back to the beginning and restart it.
Raiden assembled heroes from two timelines in order to defeat Kronika (which Liu Kang managed to achieve once being gifted Raiden’s powers).
They were only freed when Kronika died, and the shifty necromancer Shant Tsung informs Liu Kang they saw Kronika’s crown destroyed – and you need it to restart time.
Shang Tsung advises Raiden that he needs to go back in time in order to get the crown in order for a new future to be built…. but can such a future be built without Shang Tsung double-crossing the heroes of Earth Realm?
• Fujin , the God of Wind who serves as Earthrealm’s protector alongside his brother Raiden. • Sheeva , the four-armed, half-human and half-dragon queen of the ancient Shokan race. • RoboCop , the iconic, highly advanced cybernetic police officer, makes his first appearance in the franchise, continuing the pedigree of popular Mortal Kombat guest fighters. RoboCop in Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath features the voice and likeness of actor Peter Weller, who portrayed the popular character in both the original “RoboCop” (1987) film and “RoboCop 2” (1990) sequel.
You can read an in-depth exploration of these characters and initial impressions on their fighting styles over at our Mortal Kombat 11 DLC characters page.
Even players that don’t buy the game will be getting a little treat as of the release of Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath.
“In conjunction with the Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath release, all Mortal Kombat 11 owners will have access to a free content update featuring new Stages, including the return of the Klassic Dead Pool and Soul Chamber arenas,” a press release from Warner Bros reads.
We’ll also see the return of Stage Fatalities, “the fan-favourite finishing moves that use the environment to destroy opponents” and the popular Friendships feature which “allows players to take down their adversaries with a hint of kindness”.
There will be three ways to jump into the game and start playing Aftermath at release.
