With a May 26 release date, Aftermath features a brand new story, as well as a host of new and returning characters.
Sheeva and Fuijin will also return as playable characters when the game launches later this month.
The story expansion, meanwhile, sees Raiden and Liu Kang forge and uneasy alliance with sorcerer Shang Tsung.
Elsewhere, the Aftermath DLC brings back Friendship finishing moves, stage fatalities, and adds four new stages.
“One other benefit of a new story? Our environment team got to build a bevy of new stages,” reads a PlayStation blog post.
“They outdid themselves with fresh takes on the Klassic Dead Pool and Soul Chamber arenas, as well as a new stage that showcases the exterior of Kronika’s Keep.
“And then there’s our fourth new stage – the RetroKade. The Retrokade is a love letter to the fans who’ve been with us since the earliest days of Mortal Kombat. It gleefully mashes up old school game stages with our more modern presentation. It’s like someone opened up a portal to NostalgiaRealm!”
The big new Mortal Kombat 11 reveal will take place at 2pm UK time later today (May 6). Check back then for more information.
ORIGINAL: Mortal Kombat 11 developer NetherRealm is getting ready to unveil new DLC for the fighting game.
In a surprise announcement on Twitter, the company confirmed plans to reveal a new story expansion later this week.
Fans can watch the Mortal Kombat 11 DLC reveal live at 6am PT on May 6. This means UK fans will find out what’s next for Mortal Kombat 11 at 2pm BST.
According to the Mortal Kombat 11 teaser trailer (below), the new expansion will continue the MK saga.
As you can see from the trailer, Liu Kang and Raiden’s plans to architect a new history are interrupted by some unexpected guests.
In addition to new story DLC, NetherRealm is expected to announce a brand new season pass, complete with new MK legends and guest fighters.
There’s even talk of a game of the year edition, featuring all of the DLC released so far, plus the new content.
Check back at 2pm UK time on May 6 to find out exactly what’s next for Mortal Kombat 11.
As a reminder, the first Mortal Kombat 11 Season Pass added Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Joker, Sindel, Spawn and the Terminator T-800.
Kombat Pack 1 also contains 19 additional skins, as well as costumes and items with each new character.
The biggest downside is that Kombat Pack 1 costs a whopping £32.99, so a game-of-the-year edition may prove excellent value for money.
As for Kombat Pack 2 – or whatever NetherRealm decides to call it – fans already have a pretty good idea about at least one of the new characters.
For the longest time ever, rumours have suggested that Ash from The Evil Dead would make an appearance as DLC.
In a recent interview with Fansided, Ash actor Bruce Campbell said that he isn’t sure if it’s going to happen, but didn’t rule anything out.
“I probably shouldn’t emphasise yes or no because I don’t know,” he said. “The reason why it may not happen, just so you and the readers can know this, a lot of time for legal purposes, that character cannot appear in other things because of the license.
“If you can’t make a deal, that character is not going to show up. So, we may have been talked to about it.
“But I do know with MGM that handles the Army of Darkness licensing that they’re hasn’t been a discussion with them about it. They’re pretty touchy. We have to be careful of ownership.”
Needless to say, there are dozens of Mortal Kombat stalwarts that could also make an appearance, including old favourites like Reptile, Sheeva and Tanya.
