Microsoft unveiled a refreshed lineup of Surface devices on Wednesday morning, and said it will release its delayed Surface Earbuds on May 12 for $199, about $50 less than originally expected.
All of the devices, including the new Surface Book 3, Surface Headphones 2 and Surface Go 2, will be released in May and are available for preorder starting today. Panos Panay, Microsoft’s chief product officer, is “super pumped” about the lineup, of course, despite the fact that he can’t unveil them in person right now.

Microsoft had originally planned to release the Surface Earbuds last year before delaying them, saying that it needed more time “to get all the details right.”
The price positions the Surface Earbuds below the $249 Apple Airpods Pro but above lower-priced alternatives such as the $139 Amazon Echo Buds and $110 Samsung Galaxy Buds.
Surface Earbuds have touch sensors on each earbud to navigate music and calls using touch and gestures; offer 24 hours of battery life with an accompanying carrying case; and integrate with Office 365 for voice controls and related features.
Microsoft’s Surface Headphones 2, available for $249 on May 12, promise better sound quality and battery life, with a new black color option in addition to the previous gray, and the ability to rotate the ear cups 180 degrees to make them easier to wear around the neck.
The company’s Surface Go hybrid tablet/laptop has long been targeted to education and mobile workers, competing with Google Chromebooks and other lower-priced laptops. The new Surface Go 2 comes with a larger display (10.5 inches) better battery life and other features that could appeal to people working and learning from home during the COVID-19 crisis. It’s available for $399 on May 12.
On the other end of the spectrum, the company describes its new new Surface Book 3, due out May 21, is described by the company as its most powerful laptop ever. It offers up to 32GB of RAM and comes in 13.5- and 15-inch displays, ranging in price from $1,600 to $2,700 depending on configuration.
