Lord Alan Sugar’s past comments about the coronavirus pandemic have come back to haunt him after he commented on Donald Trump coming down with it on Friday.
The businessman, 73, took to Twitter following the news that the President of the USA, 74, had tested positive for coronavirus.
Lord Sugar tweeted: ‘@realDonaldTrump and his wife have covid. Will he finally wake up and realise this is a dangerous pandemic. Not as he said in March just a flu.’
Despite him making a good point, his followers weren’t about to let him forget that he had recently encouraged people to get back to work in offices despite the pandemic.
Lord Sugar had suggested those working from home had become ‘complacent’ and urged everyone to get back to normal as much as possible.
His followers tweeted: ‘Is it a dangerous pandemic or should we all be heading back to our offices? Whichever puts more money in your pocket right?’

Others added: ‘Weren’t you playing it down in Florida, “I Don’t know anyone who’s had it” and “Go out to restaurants” just before it started spiralling out of control there?’ and ‘Rich coming from you. Had the tin hat out the other week whilst swanning off to Australia’.
His followers hadn’t forgotten his recent comments on TV, adding: ‘You have being pretty flippant towards the virus too as saw your interview on this morning recently’ and ‘Says the guy who said he doesn’t know anyone who’s died from it, so open everything up.’
Speaking during an appearance on This Morning last month, Lord Sugar had told Phillip Schofield: ‘Excuse me, excuse me. I am sick and tired of watching CNN, Sky, Bloomberg, BBC, the lot, because all they do is cause panic amongst people.
‘I’m not interested in any of this stuff because you can switch the television on anytime of day and the first thing you see is some more bad news.

‘I am not interested quite frankly – I am focusing on myself, focusing on my family and focusing on making sure that we do and my staff, my people do the right thing to remain safe.’
Holly Willoughby then added: ‘You believe that the government needs to lead by example actually by getting people back to work.’
Lord Sugar continued: ‘You go down Whitehall, it’s like a ghost town and that’s because all the civil servants need half an excuse to not to go to work – we are paying for them by the way.’
He added: ‘Those people who like working from home have become a bit complacent… There’s a fine line of fearful and enjoying it, to be honest with you. It’s as simple as that.
“What are they fearful of? I’ve got a factory down the road from here that has 300 people that have been working all throughout the pandemic. We have got proper processes in place.”
He also said to Jeremy Vine over the summer that he thought Boris Johnson was being ‘a little too cautious’ about the pandemic: ‘I just, logically, say well hold on… we’ve come out of this so-called lockdown, who’s dead? I’m not. I’m still alive.
‘My wife, thank god, is still alive. So’s everybody else I know. No one else has caught anything.
‘So I suppose it’s a bit of a clue there that says maybe we’ve reached a peak, and maybe it’s time for us to follow the example of America, or indeed France, that have opened up, or indeed Spain.’
