The new Logitech MX ANywhere 3 can track on virtually any surface with great accuracy enabling you … [+] to work almost anywhere.
A mouse is one of those things we use almost every day and yet barely give a second thought to. But for those of us spending a large chunk of our working lives sitting in front of a computer, having a mouse that feels like an extension of the hand and that can flow seamlessly to the computer, can make a massive difference to our productivity and creative endeavors.
Logitech has a peerless reputation for producing some great mice. One of my favorite models is the affordable K350 Pebble Mouse that has virtually silent buttons and offers both wireless and Bluetooth connections. Now Logitech is focusing at the other end of the mouse market with a brand new mini mouse thatâs aimed at creative professionals who need a mouse thatâs reliable and programmable to work in a specific way with a large range of software.
The Logitech MX Anywhere 3 is a brand-new compact optical mouse that offers many of the features found on Logitechâs flagship MX Mouse but itâs small enough to pop in a laptop bag and go anywhere. There are two flavors of the MX Anywhere 3; one is for PCs and one for Mac. The only difference between the two variants is the Mac version only comes in white and isnât supplied with one of Logitechâs Unifying wireless dongles.
THe PC version of the MX Anywhere 3 mouse comes in three colors, Mac users only gat the choice of … [+] white.
The PC version of the new mouse comes in Graphite, White and Rose Gold. If you own a Mac, Iâd get the PC version as it gives you more options and doesnât cost any extra. Other than that, the two products are identical and the Mac version can work perfectly well with a Logitech unifying receiver.
The MX Anywhere 3 features Logitechâs MagSpeed magnetic scroll wheel. Made from high-quality stainless steel, the scroll wheel is controlled by an electromagnet. Using the Logi Options software the amount of resistance in the scroll wheel can be adjusted and thereâs a button to switch between ratchet or smooth scrolling. The MagSpeed scroll wheel can scroll through 1,000 lines of text in just a second if you spin the wheel fast enough. Itâs perfect for swiftly scrolling through lines of code, long Word documents, or huge spreadsheets.
The new mouse is happy tracking on a variety of surfaces and will even track accurately over glass surfaces. That may not strike you as a particularly useful feature until you find yourself working in front of a TV on a glass coffee table. The mouse also works well on fabric, wood or almost any surface you care to try. I prefer to use a mouse mat but sometimes you have to improvise with whatâs in front of you.
The Logitech MX Anywhere 3 mouse doesn’t just work with computers. It’s perfectly happy working with … [+] an iPad.
The ergonomic design of the dinky MX Anywhere 3 is very pleasant and comfy to use. It has soft silicone sides that make it comfortable to hold. I found the MX Anywhere 3 a bit more manageable to use than the larger MX3 mouse from Logitech. Itâs a nicely sculpted rodent and has two buttons and a scroll wheel that doubles as a third button. Sitting behind the scroll wheel is a fourth button that toggles between ratchet or smooth scrolling. Alternatively, that button can be reprogrammed to do anything else you like. On the left side of the mouse are forward and back buttons, and these can also be reprogrammed using the Logi Options software.
Logi Options is a great piece of software and opens up a huge range of possibilities when reprogramming the mouse with different functions assigned to every button on an application by application basis. There can also be universal settings. The software comes with predefined profiles for a range of applications, enabling users to work more efficiently with software like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Google Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Office with Edge, Excel, PowerPoint, Word. For example, the forward and back buttons are automatically set up to mute the microphone and turn off the webcam of a computer when using Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
Logi Options is a great piece of software that can customize the Logitech MX Anywhere 3 by … [+] application.
The mouse uses a USB-C port to charge up its internal battery and a full charge can power the MX Anywhere 3 for up to 70 days. Should you arrive at work to find thereâs no battery power left in the mouse, a quick one-minute charge will power it up for three hours of use. Thatâs less time than it takes to make a cup of coffee.
Another interesting feature with the MX Anywhere 3 is Logitech Flow; a system for seamlessly controlling multiple computers by effortlessly transferring text, images and files between computers and operating systems by copying from one computer and pasting to the other, all via the mouse. Itâs a great way to cut and paste content between, say, an iPad and an iMac.
The Logitech MX Anywhere 3 can track accurately on glass as well as a wide variety of other … [+] surfaces.
The PC version of the MX Anywhere 3 can connect using Bluetooth or the supplied Logitech USB wireless unifying receiver. The mouse can be paired with up to three devices and switch between them using a button on the base of the mouse. Any three combinations of wireless or Bluetooth connections can be set up. For example, you could be working with an iPad using a Bluetooth connection, then switch to a PC thatâs using the unifying receiver. Itâs a huge boost to productivity for multi-computer users.
Verdict: Iâve had the opportunity to try out the Logitech MX Anywhere 3 mouse for the past week or so. When used with the Logi Options software, this has to be one of the smallest and most versatile mice I have ever used. Despite its small size, the MX Anywhere 3 is very comfortable and sits beautifully in the hand. I love the fact that the buttons can be programmed individually by application. The scroll wheel enables the user to whiz through long documents and lines of code with a flick of the finger. The overall build quality is exemplary, and the stainless-steel scroll wheel is a genuine joy to use. If you want a premium mouse that can work effortlessly with a whole range of software, then the Logitech MX Anywhere 3 is your ideal travel companion.
Logitech’s new mouse has a stainless-steel scroll wheel, left and right buttons, a third button in … [+] the scroll wheel, a button for toggling between smooth and ratchet scrolling, plus forward and back buttons.
Pricing: Both the MX Anywhere 3 and the MX Anywhere 3 for Mac are available now and cost $79 / £79 / â¬79.
