Sony’s PlayStation Network seems to be suffering some difficulties this morning on May 6 – here’s what you need to know
Update 1: It seems the PlayStation Network issues have been resolved – as of about midday on Wednesday, May 6. We’ll update you if the situation changes.
Original Story: PlayStation’s PSN network appears to be struggling once again this afternoon in what appears to be the latest in a series of issues the service has suffered in the last few months.
Problems with the service first began at around 11.20am this morning, and there’s been a pretty significant spike in the number of reports for PSN on independent outage monitor DownDetector.
Of course, with increased demands on services whilst players are stuck indoors, it’s possible it’s simply related to an issue with a specific ISP.
“You may experience somewhat slower or delayed game downloads because we’re working with ISPs to manage download traffic,” Sony says in a statement on its Service Status page.
“We believe it’s important to do our part to address internet stability concerns as an unprecedented number of people are staying home and practicing social distancing.
Sony has yet to comment on this most recent outage, but we’ll keep you updated as any official statements are made.
At the time of writing, Sony’s own Network Service Status page suggests everything is up and running as normal, but the 1600+ reports about issues with PSN on DownDetector would beg to differ with that.
If you want to keep your eyes on the official channels for an update, you can head on over to PayStation EU’s Twitter account where we tend to see comments on the situation first.
“Yo @PlayStation whats going on with the server status because whenever I log in to my account it still shows me that I’m offline and no matter how many times I tried to fix my online status it wouldn’t let me” says one frustrated user.
We’ll keep you updated with news as we have it, and update this page as soon as Sony makes a comment or the service goes back online.
