Amsterdam, the Netherlands – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), a global leader in health technology, today announced its next-generation Philips Azurion image-guided therapy platform, marking an important step forward in optimizing clinical and operational lab performance and expanding the role of image-guided interventions in the treatment of patients. Intuitive, integrated and efficient, the next-generation Azurion advances the capabilities of the platform to further improve the quality and efficiency of interventional procedures. The Azurion platform has already achieved rapid global adoption and has been used in well over two million procedures [1] worldwide since its introduction three years ago.

In the past few decades, clinical practices around the world have evolved to successfully treat more patients and perform more complex procedures in interventional labs. However, with more staff and technologies involved during these procedures, interventional lab environments can become crowded and cluttered. In order to enhance clinician focus and control during procedures, Philips has integrated all the essential lab systems and tools into this new version of the Azurion platform, making it an important step forward in lab integration.

An industry-first, the Philips Azurion image-guided therapy platform now integrates control of imaging, physiology, hemodynamic and informatics applications, as well as intuitive control of the gantry, at the tableside, allowing clinicians to control all compatible applications from a single touch screen while performing procedures. This can eliminate the need for clinicians to leave the sterile field and step into an adjacent control room, as well as supporting faster and better informed decision making.

Simplifying 3D imaging during interventional procedures With this next-generation Azurion platform, Philips is also introducing a new 3D imaging solution called SmartCT [2]. With SmartCT, users are guided through the image acquisition and can review and interact with the acquired CT-like 3D images on the tableside touch screen module using 3D visualization and measurement tools. These tools have been designed to support procedures in a range of clinical domains, including neurology, oncology, and cardiovascular procedures. The use of 3D imaging such as 3D RA or Cone Beam CT during interventional procedures has been shown to improve outcomes [3] and reduce radiation dose for both staff and patients [4].

“Our aim as an innovation company and global market leader in image-guided therapy is to push the boundaries and set new industry standards for delivering an outstanding experience for clinicians, helping them to deliver superior care to every patient,” said Ronald Tabaksblat, General Manager Image Guided Therapy Systems at Philips. “This next-generation Azurion makes routine cardiovascular procedures more efficient and supports the development of new minimally-invasive techniques to treat complex diseases such as stroke, lung cancer and spine disorders.”

“The integrated platform enables us to efficiently carry out complex interventions at any time using a wide range of functions such as IVUS and iFR co-registration,” said Dr. med. Alexander Becker, head of the cardiac catheter laboratory at the Robert Bosch Hospital in Stuttgart, Germany, and one of the first hospitals to experience the new platform. “The use of the control panel by the examiner is intuitive, combining different sources of information to make patient evaluation much easier and faster.”

Seamless control and workflow during procedures With the new Azurion platform, clinicians can easily switch between imaging, physiology, hemodynamic and informatics applications, including SmartCT and IntraSight – a comprehensive suite of clinically proven iFR, FFR, IVUS and co-registration modalities. Fully automatic position control enables clinicians to intuitively control the position of the gantry and table, as well as choosing from a wide range of stored parameters. The new Azurion also includes advanced cybersecurity features, new high-definition image display capabilities, and advanced remote and proactive services. The platform is available in three versions: complementing the Azurion 3 and 7 variants, Philips now also offers the Azurion 5 to facilitate even more tailored solutions to address specific customer needs. HONG KONG, CHINA – Media OutReach – 1 September 2020 – Atradius forecasts a jump in insolvencies across Asia in 2020, with Hong Kong expected to be one of the most affected markets across the globe. The increases are primarily driven by the impact the Covid-19 pandemic is having on global economies. Every major economy, except for China, is expected to enter recession this year, the depth and length of which will be determined by the ability of economies to manage health regulations and either exit lockdowns or thrive in social distancing.

Atradius Chief Economist John Lorié commented, “Government measures have reduced the anticipated increase in bankruptcy filings in a range of ways. They have either shifted the threshold for filing, reduced debtor’s ability to force bankruptcy, or provided sufficient financial support to delay filings. However, as the support programs begin to expire, the number of filings should climb rapidly.”

Among Asian economies, Atradius forecasts insolvencies to rise 39% in Hong Kong, behind just Turkey and the United States in the global ranking. The city’s economy is in a deep recession and there has been little or no suspension of insolvency proceedings. However, Hong Kong’s government has implemented a sizable fiscal stimulus programme that has helped to dampen the number of insolvencies. Elsewhere in the region, Japan, Singapore and South Korea will experience a considerable growth in insolvencies during 2020 but see a significant decrease in 2021.

Bart Poublon, Head of Risk for Atradius APAC said, “The pandemic has put downward pressure on Asia’s export-driven economies as global supply chains come under pressure and demand wanes. However, as one of the first regions to reopen, Asia is well-positioned to benefit from the rebound in economic activity, which will lead to falling rates of insolvency in 2021.

ZUG, SWITZERLAND – Newsaktuell – 1 September 2020 – Following substantial evidence brought up against the validity of Synova’s EP 1833636 B1 by Avonisys AG in ongoing court proceedings before the Swiss Federal Patent Court, Synova substantially limited the original patent on 14 August 2020 by means of limitation proceedings before the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property.

Evidence proving that key, if not all, features of the claims of EP 1833636 B1 as granted had either been realized in numerous machines sold prior to the filing date of the patent application or were already in the public domain by means of other public disclosure, seems to have pushed Synova’s management to limit the original patent in an effort to maintain protection for at least some of the originally claimed subject-matter.

Synova’s move supports Avonisys’ view that most, if not all, of EP 1833636 B1’s claims were invalid in the light of the quality and overwhelming amount of evidence. It also casts additional and significant doubt on the legitimacy of Synova’s original patent infringement proceedings against Avonisys AG.

“All the facts are on the table now and we remain confident that the competent Swiss court will draw the right conclusions in this case soon”, comments Stephan Mohren, Chairman of the Board of Directors Avonisys AG.

GE Aviation and Cathay Pacific Group have signed a five-year agreement to implement GEs Event Measurement System (EMS) for flight analytics and the FlightPulse pilot app. The digital technologies will be deployed across various fleet types in Cathay Pacific Group in September as well as the pilot community later in 2020. The agreement includes Cathay Pacific, Cathay Dragon and Air Hong Kong.

Cathay Pacific has established our own efficiency best practices for years, said Capt Mark Hoey, GM Operations with Cathay Pacific. It is vital to have a flight analytics system that can easily adapt to our policies and procedures instead of the other way around. The good connectivity of the GE EMS system reduces the system migration effort, enables interaction with our corporate BI tool and maintains continuity to our users. The system flexibility and extensive library of measurements, parameters and events reduce the efforts in measuring and monitoring new best practices. After a substantial trial period with EMS, we concluded that it was the best fit for our requirements.

FlightPulse is a mobile app that uses aircraft data and advanced flight data analytics to enable pilots to securely access their own flying metrics and trends. FlightPulse can be used to optimize efficiency, reduce operational risk and improve pilot awareness.

We are thrilled to be chosen by Cathay Pacific to expand our growing digital partnership into the arena of flight analytics, said Andrew Coleman, senior vice president and general manager of GE Aviations Digital Group. Were merging multiple data sources, building on a comprehensive set of analytics and expanding with FlightPulse to help pilots fly more efficiently and reduce carbon emissions.

GE Aviations flight analytics service uses flight data generated by the aircraft and merges it with the airlines operational data. It applies proprietary data management and analytics technology to help Cathay Pacific better manage their aircraft operations and assets, providing previously unavailable insight into efficiency, flight safety, engineering and maintenance.

Capt Hoey noted that the FlightPulse tailored information for individual crew members enables Cathays pilots to conduct their own analyses and compare themselves with their peers. The interactive report allows them to review their fuel planning, collaborate on focus areas and drive behavior changes. The ability to include safety-related analytics is another added advantage that enhances SOP implementation and improves safety. We believe FlightPulse will be welcome and supported by our crew, said Capt Hoey.
