An Australian home cook has crafted the perfect breakfast bites made entirely of bacon using Kmart’s signature $29 pie maker.

The Queensland man debuted his clever meal idea on social media, saying that it ‘worked out perfectly’ with the addition of a few key vegetables and an egg inside.

He started by laying a slice of bacon over each hole in the pie maker, allowing it to sink into the mold, before placing some cut up mushrooms, a slice of tomato and cheese on top.

He also cracked an egg into the middle which would later set when the pie maker was turned on.

The final step was to create a ‘lid’ for the bacon pie with more pieces of pig on top, before lowering the pie maker lid to cook them for 15 to 17 minutes.

Cutting into one of the bites revealed that the raw egg had cooked through completely, as had the bacon and mushroom pieces.

‘I make these too, my boys love them. My question is do they taste okay cold? I’m thinking of using them as a lunchbox addition,’ said another.

Some were curious as to whether reducing the cooking time would equal a runnier yolk but the home cook – who had wondered this himself – felt as though the bacon would be less crispy as a result.

He believed eight to 10 minutes was the perfect amount of time to cook the bites for a softer egg consistency.

There have been a number of spin offs to the original Kmart pie maker and thousands of recipes, including nachos pies.

One mother said she turned tortilla wraps into mini cups so she could fill them with cooked mince beef with nacho spice mix, topped with cheese in the pie maker (pictured)

Another home cook used wonton sheets as the base, before filling them with beef mince and cheese, topped with guacamole and a dollop of sour cream (pictured)

Once the bases have crisped up and the cheese have melted, she added guacamole, salsa and a dollop of sour cream.

‘Not sure if anyone has made these before and excuse the messy pie maker, this was the third batch. I cut out circles from tortilla wraps and added nacho mince to them and a sprinkle of cheese on top,’ she said.

‘Once they were cooked we added guacamole, salsa and sour cream… Not everyone’s going to like the idea but the kids loved them.’
