It’s no secret that Nintendo Switch owners like their physical games. There’s just something cool about having a shelf (or entire bookcase) full of games. Besides, you never need to worry about how long your digital games will be available for if you have a real cart or disc on hand. We also love ports of classic games, especially ones that skipped Nintendo systems originally. So joining its PlayStation and PlayStation 2 era brethren, a Final Fantasy IX physical version is coming from Square Enix, slated for some time this year. Check out this sweet box art!
According to PlayAsia, the Final Fantasy IX physical version will support “English, French, Italian, German, Spanish,” as well as, presumably, Japanese. Like all Switch games, it is of course region-free. There’s a disclaimer about needing a regional account for “online features,” but it seems unlikely that this will ever be an issue, considering the original game didn’t have those.
While we only know about it being released in Asia as of right now, there’s a decent chance that this could find its way to the West. Just a few days ago, Square Enix announced that the Final Fantasy VII / Final Fantasy VIII Remastered Twin Pack will be coming to Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand. If you don’t want to wait any longer, however, you can preorder the Final Fantasy IX physical edition now.
