Warzone launched a few months after Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare as a free-to-play standalone game that was tied closely to the main game. Seasonal Battle Passes unlock rewards for both games, including skins and XP boosts and so forth.
Iâm not sure how this will work once Black Ops â Cold War releases. Will we still be able to purchase a Modern Warfare Battle Pass if we want to stick with that game? Will there be two Battle Passes, one for Cold War and one for Modern Warfare, both of which tie into Warzone? That seems unlikely but it does make sense.
In any case, things are heating up as we near the big Cold War reveal which takes place in Verdansk (in-game in Warzone) tomorrow.
The gameâs release date has also been leaked online, so we now have a pretty good idea of when the game will launch. Season 5 of Warzone will end on October 5th (if patterns hold) and the next season should transition Warzoneâs Modern Warfare theme to a Black Ops theme, though Iâm still not sure how that will work.
Now, thanks to new leaked modes, we have at least some idea. A new Zombies Royale mode has leaked and it sounds like a blast. Itâs part of several new modes dataminers have found in the gameâs files:
The modeâs description reads: âPlayers turn into Zombies on death, but can become human again by consuming fallen playerâs hearts.â
So thatâs an interesting twist. Players turning into zombies is a great idea for a battle royale game, but being able to turn back into human definitely adds some flavor. I wonder how many times that will be possible.
Presumably the Gulag is turned off for this mode, but if itâs at all like that game mechanic players will only have once respawn. Then again, it could be you can respawn as many times as you like so long as you can consume a human heart before being killed (which is probably pretty difficult since you wonât have a gun and youâll be competing with other undead for hearts).
In any case, thereâs no indication of when this mode will go live. Maybe itâll land this weekend after the big Cold War reveal, or maybe itâs being saved for Season 6 in October, which would make more sense in my humblest of opinions.
Donât forget to drop in to Verdansk tomorrow for the big Black Ops â Cold War reveal. See you in the Warzone, young padawans.
Today is the big day, and we should learn a lot of new stuff about Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War during both the live event in Warzone and during the GDC livestream which should give us a second, separate look at the game.
Remember to login to Warzone today at 10:30 am PT (click the link above for other timezones) and then tune into the GDC livestream at 11 am PT right after for whatever Call of Duty is showing off there (presumably another trailer, though itâs conceivable theyâll show the same trailer twice to catch more viewers).
Itâs possible that we wonât actually learn more about zombies in Warzone today, however, as Iâm betting we hear mostly about the campaign with only some teases at multiplayer and Warzone content.
Still, we should have a better idea of how Warzone and Cold War will be integrated, and I would be pretty surprised if they didnât at least throw us a bone for Zombie Royale and whatever zombie mode is coming to Cold War (because you canât have a Black Ops game without zombies!)
CharlieIntel is reporting on other features coming to Cold War via some new leaks. The site reports that these features will be added to the game:
Meanwhile, TheGamingRevolution describes the game as if Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 4 had a baby:
Letâs just hope it has more of the Black Ops 2 genetic code than Black Ops 4. At least it sounds like there wonât be specialists, and maybe the whole thing will be less cartoony than the last two Black Ops games. Weâll know more soon!
