Privacy is one of the key arguments of WhatsApp. Thanks to its end-to-end encryption system, the messaging app is one of the most popular in the world. A system that could soon be undermined in a specific case : when a message is reported by a user.
WhatsApp seems to be looking to strengthen its system for reporting inappropriate behavior within its application.. For the moment, when a user is the victim of spam, of
bullying, insults or other inappropriate behavior, he can signal his interlocutor. This will delete the discussion and block the reported profile.. But WhatsApp would like to go further and strengthen its measures against people with inappropriate behavior on its platform, WaBetaInfo reports.
In the event of a report, the most recent messages will be transferred to the WhatsApp servers, so that they are read by moderators. They can then assess whether the report is legitimate and whether a ban on the phone number associated with the user is necessary.
This new reporting and banning policy is still in the testing phase within the application and some gray areas persist. How many "recent messages" will be forwarded to WhatsApp moderators ? How far can they go back in the conversation to rule on user behavior ? Only messages from the reported profile will be forwarded to moderators or will the entire conversation be forwarded ?
Difficult to know now. One thing is certain, WhatsApp privacy can no longer be fully assured. And it could get expensive for the app, even if it's for a good reason.
It remains to be seen when this new policy will apply to all users. Many new features are expected on the messaging application, including temporary messages and a better storage management tool.
