Dr Bharat Pankhania and Dr Olivia Champion will appear on the programme based around coronavirus and going out

‘Dispatches: How Safe Is Going Out’ is due to air at 8pm on the channel with the episode investigating just how safe places have made their establishments for customers visiting during the coronavirus pandemic.

In line with Government guidelines, many places have ramped up their cleaning regime and have stated that there will be more regular deep cleans taking place to ensure safety measures are being met.

However, as cases of COVID-19 are rising across the country once again, presenter and journalist Morland Sanders has decided to see just how safe these places really are.

Featuring in the show will be two University of Exeter experts – Dr Bharat Pankhania and Dr Olivia Champion.

Dr Pankhania is the University’s communicable disease and public health expert and a Liberal Democrat councillor for Combe Down ward at Bath Council.

He has a widespread of experience of advising on national communicable disease control action plans at national and international level.

Dr Champion is an award-winning scientist who has founded two companies, become an inventor and given a TED Talk along with contributed to another Channel 4 documentary.

She lives in Torquay and is a former research fellow at the University of Exeter where she took part in researching bacteria that cause infection in humans and animals and how we can better detect, prevent and treat infections during her time there.

She is now the founder and CEO of Crediton-based company BioSystems Technology and Cornwall-based Entec Nutrition.

In tonight’s programme, the cleanliness of high touch point surfaces from a range of different places, from transports on their commute, going out to a restaurant and even going on a staycation will be investigated.

The show will also be looking at the emerging research regarding the concerns on the airborne transmission of COVID-19.
