You certainly know, PrestaShop is a software that allows you to create an online ecommerce store. We introduced you earlier how to install the latter. Now, I will show you how to add products on it.
This tutorial was made on version 1.6.x of PrestaShop. You will probably notice a slight difference with the previous versions. First of all, you have to access the catalog interface.
By clicking on it, you will access the page that lists all the different products available in your store. To add a new product, you must click on the button " Add new product ».
Presentation of the interface for adding products
On the new page, you can notice that the latter is composed of several tabs. Some tabs will require product registration before they can be accessed.
The "Information" tab
In this tab, you must provide all the information about your product, that is to say :
- Last name
- Reference
- Bar code
- Visibility
- Activation
- Conditioning
- Description
- Résumé
- Etc.
Once it's done, click on " Register product " lower.
The "Price" tab
From now on, you can access the " Price ». On this tab, you can determine the different values taken by your product (with and without taxes).
The "SEO Reference" tab
You may have understood it, this is where you add the SEO details of your product (title, description, Simplified url).
The "Association" tab
It's a kind of category. You will use it to group your different products. To add a new category, click on " Create a new category ». I'll come back to this later.
The "Delivery" tab
Here, you must provide the physical details of the package (cut, weight), but also the details of the carrier.
The "Declination" tab
With this tab, you can manage the different variations or version of your products. It is also possible to create new variations.
The "Quantities" tab
On this tab, you can define the different quantities of your product according to its variations. You also have the option of defining the default behavior when there is a shortage of stock, for physical products.
The "Images" tab
I think this tab is pretty obvious, because this is where you will save the different images of your products.
The "Characteristics" tab
Here, you will record the various physical details of your product (including its composition, its properties).
The "Personalization" tab
With this tab, you can add custom fields to your product. These different information will be visible on the product page.
File upload fields will add a field to upload files to the server, and the text field will show custom texts on your product.
The "Attached Documents" tab
Here, you can attach some files to your product. This interface also has an attached file manager, which will allow you to add all the files available in your PrestaShop online store.
The "Suppliers" tab
Here, you have the possibility to manage the different suppliers of your products. To create a new supplier, you must click on "Create a supplier" always in the same interface.
It is also possible to determine the references for each supplier.
How to manage the different categories
Category management is done in the " Catalogue >> Categories ». On this new page, you can see all the different categories you have created. To create a new category, you must click on the link "Add a category".

On this new page, you have to :
- Provide a name
- Define if the category is visible
- Choose parent category
- Provide a description
- A URL simplifies
- Keywords
- Define accessibility according to groups.
- A representative image of the category
