TikTok went down in the UK, the Netherlands and Australia earlier, with users reporting problems connecting to the app.
There were thousands of reported issues with the social media site around lunchtime, according to DownDetector.
The issues started at 1.06pm, according to the website which tracks outages at popular websites.
Some 58% of people who reported problems said they were having trouble viewing videos, 35% said they couldn’t log-in and 5% said they couldn’t upload.
It’s not clear what caused the outage and it didn’t seem to be affecting all users.
Some took to social media to share pictures of their profiles which weren’t showing any followers or content. There was shock as likes and follower counts dropped to zero.
Others said they had been told they needed to change their user name, but this didn’t appear to resolve the issue.
One comment online said: ‘The app has completely crashed since I downloaded the newest update. Its saying I need to change my username. I also can’t see Everyone’s else’s usernames. I can’t watch any videos and its telling me I have connection problems.’
Some worried the glitches meant they had been blocked or their account had been hacked. Others thought it could have been a problem with their home wi-fi.
The social media giant has not yet explained what happened but things appeared to have been resolved by around 2pm.
