Another eventful week down in the year 2020AD, and Nintendo dropped a surprise Direct Mini on us all, with games cropping up unexpectedly on eShop, including cloud versions coming the the West, and a prominent prognosticator produced a peculiar take on Nintendo’s Switch strategy.

With the weekend now upon us, though, it’s time to discuss our weekend gaming plans. Members of Nintendo Life have done just that below, and we’d love for you to join in via our poll and comment sections. Enjoy!

I’m struggling to even decide what to play after the Mini Direct dropped a truckload but Part Time UFO has been capturing my attention. I missed out on the initial mobile release but HAL’s puzzler is incredibly charming and addictiveplus it has QBBY (from BOXBOY!) hidden in most levels which means it must be good. It kinda takes me back to the simplicity of World of Goo but with a quicker pace and jollier vibe.

I’ll get around to revisiting No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2 before the year’s end but for now, I’m actually going a bit further back in time. I’ve been on a bit of a Puyo Puyo kick in anticipation for Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 and ordered Puyo Puyo 2 for Saturn and Puyo Puyo Sun 64. I don’t have a huge history with Compile’s games so I’m hoping to give myself a history lesson with these two.

Hello. This weekend I’m going to be getting stuck into a bunch of review stuff including Sniper Elite 4, a game I absolutely loved when it originally released, and Bakugan: Champions of Vestroia, which so far feels very Pokemon: Let’s Go, so keep an eye out for thoughts on those shortly. I’ll also be putting aside a little time for some Halloween horror-flavoured shenanigans with Little Nightmares and Layers of Fear, two games I’ve owned since they first came out and just haven’t got around to playing yet. Here’s hoping they scare the pants, trousers and socks right off my body! Have a spooky weekend whatever you’re playing and stay safe out there.

I’m itching to give Control on Switch a proper go. It was one of the games I hoped to see on Switch at the start of the year, although I wasn’t holding out much hope. There are concerns when it comes to gaming via the cloud, but it seems that feedback from readers is generally positive so far, so I’m eager to spend more time with the game. A Halloween treat, indeed!

Elsewhere it’s the same old story, really: a bit of the backlog, some Hades, and I’m sure I’ll be meeting up with olJack in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Stay safe, everybody!

What a spooky weekend! As yearly traditions mandates it is time to break out the minis: Castlevania: Bloodlines and Ghouls ‘n Ghosts on Mega Drive Mini; Splatterhouse, Daimakaimura and Akumajō Dracula X: Chi No Rondo on TurboGrafx-16 Mini; Super Castlevania IV, Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts and Super Metroid on Super NES Classic.

Sadly I have yet to figure how to insert my Zombies Ate My Neighbours cartridge on the SNES Mini, might have to go assemble the real thing. Will likely live stream some of these for extra challenge. After checking out the Halloween event on Animal Crossing: New Horizons, time to return to my two games of the week: The brilliant gacha-madness of Part Time UFO and the sensory overload of Crimzon CloverWorld EXplosion. So many explosions, so little time

There’s so much to play this weekend, so I guess I’ll start with some No More Heroes (it’s been a while). In fact, if I can, I might just power through the entire game and then follow it up with the second entry right away. I want to knock both of these over on the Switch well before the arrival of No More Heroes III next year.

Apart from this, I’ll probably spend some time with Pikmin 3 Deluxe and the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity demo. I suppose I should play something spooky this weekendthe Splatoon 2 Halloween Splatfest will doTeam Treat all the way. Happy Halloween, everyone!

As always, thanks for reading! Make sure to leave a vote in the poll above and a comment below with your gaming choices over the next few days

Gavin loves a bit of couch co-op, especially when he gets to delegate roles, bark instructions and give much-appreciated performance feedback at the end. He lives in Spain (the plain-y bit where the rain mainly falls) and his love for Banjo-Kazooie borders on the unhealthy.

I finished slogging through The Witcher 3 a couple of days ago so that’s freed me up to play some other games. Played through Carto which was pretty fun and now I’m mainly playing If My Heart Had Wings with a bit of Disc Room and Part Time UFO on the side and a bunch of Splatoon 2 this weekend for Splatfest.

Pikmin 3 switch version. $60 big for the price. However, i haven’t played the game before. So will see what’s up with the hype then will give my personal verdict.

Not too much Nintendo lately. I’ll be playing No More Heroes soon but this weekend it’s Dead Rising 2 and the original Silent Hill.

As a change of pace I’m on a bit of a Sci;Adv kick. I’ve started playing Chaos;Child (Vita) and I’m watching the Steins;Gate anime which I’m enjoying as much as the VN.

I finally got my first (and so far only) #1 in Mario 35 a few days ago. So the daily rotation continues with that one.

Working my way through Trails of Cold Steel IV. I am getting tempted to buy Hades though and see what the hype is about!

I’ll likely pick-up No More Heroes 1&2 again this weekendI’ll definitely be replaying the entire series, including the severely underrated Travis Strikes Again, before the third game drops next year.

Splatfest and ACNH Halloween will fill out my weekend. I’m also currently attacking my backlog and making good progress. Finished Va-11 Hall-A and Katana Zero this week. Next on list is Owlboy or Celeste.

I am literally not going to say what I’m playing this weekend because I’m sick and tired of ‘discussing’ in NL comment sections about the fact that I enjoy it (which apparently is a fact that ‘baffles’ many people, and to others apparently makes me a terrible person who’s encouraging some of the very worst practices on the face of the planet).

i really had my doubts about cloud-playing on switch. but im enjoying CONTROL a lot. apart from a few hickups when playing undocked (my wifi isnt that great) i haven’t had any problems. docked with cable connection works perfectly. now i cant wait to see more moden AAA games on my switch!

My journey continues in Atelier Ryza. Stuck on a particularly obnoxious dragon right now and having to grind so I can fight it properly.

I’m very busy today and tomorrow. 😩Working at school on this Saturday and Sunday to prepare school accreditation. 😫I will go home at night and probably play Animal Crossing New Horizons to haunt the villagers and getting DIY recipes. Oh, btw… Happy Halloween everyone !

I’ve completed Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine in All-Stars now but am taking a break from it before starting Mario Galaxy (which I’ll be playing for the first time!) to try and complete Team Sonic Racing story mode. I’m also trying to unlock all the levels in Mario 35I have about half of them.

Currently on 280/361 stars in Super Mario 3D All Stars after 100%ing 64 and Sunshine with some decent progress on Galaxyso hopefully getting to the 300% completion this weekend!

Been a blast so far (had only played 64 before back in the day) but the blue coins in Sunshine were slightly tedious.

@Northwind You don’t need to justify yourself to others. I’ve had plenty of raised eyebrows for having the audacity to find Sonic Forces fun.

Ni No Kuniiiii! At 10€ is a must have! I’m playing it already, and holy s*+#, it does look AWESOME in handheld. Just like watching and playing a Studio Ghibli movie. Really impressive visually, but everything else is not far behind! I’m loving it so far. Also playing Trials of Mana remake with my bros, and wowAnother great game! Really recommended if you like tradicional action RPGs.

@Northwind And why the heck do other people’s annoying comments bother you that much? Go play your thing and that’s it

This week I was able to finish up Shantae and the Seven Sirens (which wound up being my second favourite Shantae game after Pirate’s Curse).

So now I’m picking back up Ori and the Will of the Wisps now that the patch has finally arrived. The problem is, is that I think the game plays worse now. I’ve been in several areas (midnight burrows, that snow area) where the framerate literally dipped to 1 FPS. I am not overexaggerating. Ori stood still on the screen, moving one frame each second in the midnight burrows that I thought the game was going to crash. And then when I went to the snow area later, I had the same thing happen, but it actually resulted in a crash. I feel really dumb for waiting for the patch. I should have just finished the game back then. Now I’m paranoid of these framerate drops everytime I play, and i swear the game’s framerate is slower than before, overall.

Other than Ori, I’ll be playing more of my Golden Tee Arcade1up. My wife and daughter are really into the game too, which i totally never expected.

AVGN Deluxe obviously, a great little game and very challenging at times, will be on Animal Crossing a bit later for Halloween festivities

I’m going to finally finish Act 2 in DragonQuest 11! Only took 80 hours! On to act 3 for another 30-40

@GregamanX I started playing Ori 2 since patch as well, and so far, no major hiccups as of yet. I 100%ed the Midnight Burrows area on Thursday with no notable issues (but you also said snow area, which I haven’t gotten up to just yet).

My main focus this weekend will be Ori 2, with some ScourgeBringer, Binding of Issac and Slay the Spire thrown in. And I’ll also beat Hyper Light Drifter for the 6th time (since August), as being amongst my favourite video game experiences of all-time. Flawless.

Of course I’ll meet Jack in ACNH this evening. My island is so prepared for his arrival! I also managed to catch a Giant Trevally just before it goes away tomorrow, so very happy I did! Additionally, I’ll play some Nioh which I started only yesterday and Im already additicted. Oh, and of course Persona 5 Royal keeps grabbing my attention as well.Have a great (spooky) weekend everyone!

Splatfest and Control for me this weekend. And if I’m not on Switch it’ll be back to AC Odyssey.

My adventure in Zelda BotW continues. I have leveled the Ancient Armor to level 2 to obtain that nifty Ancient Proficiency effect. I also farmed a few Lynel materials (for the Barbarian Armor) before going to clear the Middle Trials of Trial of the Sword.

Ironically my hardest area was in the windy levels against the bow wielding bokoblings, but prevaile it without dieing. Will hold on trying the Final Trials of Trial of the Sword until I have more hearts and stamina.

100%’d Galaxy so will have a look at Age of Calamity demo again. Pikmin 3 Deluxe & No More Heroes revisits will probably occur in depth

@Northwind not sure what game you’re talking about, but I love hearing what everyone else is playing! So long as YOU’RE having fun that’s all that matters, enjoy! I’ve done my daily challenges in SMB35 and I’m taking a break from Sunshine to play Resident Evil Revelations 2 for Halloween! Have a safe weekend everyonemaybe check out Michael Jackson’s mini movie Ghosts, up on his official YouTube channel for a few days only, a masterpiece in my opinion, and you might be a bit more sympathetic towards him. Happy Halloween 🎃

@John_Deacon & @Clyde_Radcliffe: it’s not that I’m bothered by different opinions or that I feel the need to justify myself. It’s more that people here have a tendency to flood my inbox with mentions telling me how wrong I am. (Full disclosure, I have also done this to others in the past, but I do try to keep it to a minimum when there’s not an ongoing discussion already nor a glaring falsehood or inconsistency being stated.)

As far as I know it’s not possible to turn off inbox notifications on NL on an article-by-article or topic-by-topic basisand just Ignoring half a dozen people who otherwise aren’t bothersome outside of this particular context isn’t an ideal solution eitherso at times I just don’t want to stoke the fire whilst standing in the coals. (I suppose I could have said nothing at all here; in hindsight, that probably would have been the wisest choice. I just got a bit on autopilot with the instruction to ‘comment below’. )

Switch still in repairs, although that doesn’t stop the respective library from growing further, even if very muchpost restante” now – to the point where pulling the trigger on the expiring discount tomorrow should mark Ni no Kuni as my estimated 500th Switch game.🙀😵😅 But as far as this weekend goes in general, my gaming time should still be occupied by 3DS and Vita, including Fire Emblem Echoes and even a bit of Project X Zone despite my reluctance to dive far into it before catching up on the predecessors. Namco x Capcom remains the biggest FWP among said predecessoramskudos to the folks who at least translated it, but it’s still not ripe for Android emulation, the image recently going from the recurrent sprite draw errors to random crashes just as I resolved myself to stomach the former.😏 Dedicating a portion of my weekly PC sessions (it’s only so often that I lug my laptop and gamepad around) might have to suffice, assuming PSCX2 will cooperate better in the first place. At least the Endless Frontier dilogy is on NDS.

Pikmin 3 for switch. And watch dogs legion on PS4 pro. Only ever played pikmin 1 on gamecube back when it released and the short day mechanic put me off. Hopefully i will enjoy pikmin 3!

I’m into the last couple of chapters of Final Fantasy 7 remake. Pikmin 3 is sat in front of me in its cellophane- I’ll get into some co-op with it later and a good does of passive aggressive backbiting at the end of every failed attempt at a level

@Northwind that’s a shame, I find it interesting to see what people are playing over the weekend! Don’t worry about those people, there are entry of trolls on the internet.

I bought the Borderlands Collection as it was on sale recently, finished the first game and just started the second. Quite fun —albeit a tad repetitive — as being on lockdown (again) gunning shrieking psychomidgets sure is a nice way to vent.

Been playing it with a assortment of Metroid Prime and Shadow Man soundtrack playing in the background and it works very well.

Stardew Valley; I’ve started fresh once again, to enjoy the 1.4 update from scratch (it looks like 1.5 is just around the corner… if mr Barone will change the game significantly, I won’t mind starting from scratch again). So… yeah, for the last couple of weeks and the next few, Stardew all the way (and maybe a bit of BL2 g+, but I keep getting my ass kicked so I guess not 😀

Just a few hours into Spiritfarer, wow, what a great game. And my last game was The Last Campfire. So, I guess I am into thetraveling to death” genre. The Last Campfire was great, with my only gripe being the few framerate drops. Not a lot, but enough to make a 10 game to a 9.

Stolen my daughter’s copy of Luigi’s Mansion 3. In the mood for something a bit lighter before starting Xenoblade Chronicles DE and it seemed the perfect time to give it a try.

I’m mostly playing Pokemon Sword and I will check out the Halloween event in Animal Crossing NH. I also bought A Short Hike so I will dive into that aswell.

Last weekend I largely took a break from Mario and played Sniper Elite 4. I love that game and can’t wait to get it on Switch. This weekend however, I’m focusing on finishing up Dream Team. It’s a good game with fantastic music and art direction, but it doesn’t know the meaning of the wordbrevity”. Everything in the game takes far too long to do. I hope Paper Jam isn’t as padded out as Dream Team is.

I also grabbed some spooky games on sale including Carrion, and I played through probably 75% of that yesterday. I’ll probably finish it today. I was really enjoying it.

Since it’s Halloween, I’m also thinking I may watch The Thing and its prequel for the first time. That monster is terrifying.

@Shadeon_Koopa the slowdown did happen for me while I was in handheld mode, so if you were playing docked, it may have been fine. I did play some more of the game last night and this morning while docked, and I haven’t experienced that slowdown again. I’m going to stay docked from now on and hope for the best.

Also, i hope Scourgebringer is fun for you. I have some interest in it, but I’m not sure if it falls on the brutally hard side of the roguelike genre, like Spelunky.

On the last level of dkc snes online. Might do a bit of the splatfest if i have time. Also Kingdom New Lands on ipad.

earlier this week I finished Atelier Ryza and Castlevania Portrait of Ruin.
Right now I’m mainly playing Oninaki and the sweet Part Time UFO.

I’m swapping between Anthem (it was cheap so thought I would see how the updates have improved it) and AC Odyssey (chasing the last few trophies for the platinum).I also picked Sniper Elite 3 and Ni No Kuni up on switch so will give them a go once the Mrs gets bored and wants the TV back.

I’m just about to finish my 100% run through of all three games in Super Mario 3D Allstars. Those last few stars/shines are always the trickiest though, so it might take longer than I expect. I also plan on starting Pikmin 3 Deluxe. I completed the demo, so I’ll move my save file and continue from there. Then there’s the Hyrule Warriors demo that I’ll finally give some time to. If I have extra time I’ll start No More Heroes.

I downloaded My Time at Portia last night, it was on sale and had it on my Wishlist. Very nice charming open world. The loading times seem OK. Takes a while to get used to the mechanics like building and initially even shop transactions. I am happy with it. Brilliant presentation and there is a huge amount of depth to every thing. Picked it up for £6 something. Happy.

I am gonna play the demo of hyrule warriors. The splatfest is also something i wanna try.And maybe i’m gonna play some minecraft.

Growtopia (Switch) – My kids wanted to try this on the Switch after playing on the phone, but apparently the servers closed last year.

@JasmineDragon alchemy is really helpful for getting strong enough for battles. It sometimes makes the battles too easy though.

No more heros and dragon quest 11s if i even have time this weekend. Itll be a busy one.

This weekend, I’m planning to get back into Super Mario 3D All-Stars, more specifically though Super Mario Sunshine. I also recently downloaded the demo version of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, so I should probably check that out as well.

I’ll also be playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons for a bit as well, after all turnips aren’t gonna buy/sell themselves.

Genshin impact! 3 weeks in and still a wild ride exploring this HUGE world with secrets everywhere! I have no time for anything else, and anyway I did not like any of the demos from the eShop. Just discovered snake pass though and it’s a blast, perfect in small bursts.

Anyways, I’ll be playing some more of the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Demo Versionwhich I am really enjoying so farand will also be checking into Pokémon Sword, hoping to get the last Ash’s Cap Pikachu. Maybe some Super Mario 3D All-Stars, if I have time.

@GregamanX I recently completed the will of the wisp’s. It’s was a mostly flawless experience, but I did have one similar experience to you. I forgot what area is was, although it was towards the end of the game. My screen froze for around 5 minutes so it was quite bad. Other than that though I would say my experience was awesome. Great game

My main game for the weekend is Attend Friend’s Wedding. It’s the complete 2020 package, including the social distancing and mask DLC. Oh, and there will be pie and ice cream. Who needs all that leftover cake nonsense?

I’ll likely fit in a little more Grim Fandango Remastered and Super Mario Odyssey’s post-game on the Switch when I get the chance.

If I get tired of that I plan to play the demo of Hyrule Warriors- I didn’t enjoy the first one but maybe this will be better for me..Otherwise I’ll continue playing The Avengers on Xbox until my copy of Pikmin 3 arrives from GameFly.Have a great weekend everyone!

I’m playing a lot. This past week or so I got: Angry Video Game Nerd I & II Deluxe, Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Demo, Cobra Kai, G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout, Transformers: Battlegrounds, Control, Eyes, Overlanders, Mechstermination Force, South Park: The Stick of Truth, Torchlight III, and a couple of smaller cheap games. And, I still have bigger games I previously got to work through too (Paper Mario: Origami King, Borderlands Trilogy, etc) while also continuing to play other games I’ve previously beat (Hades, Resident Evil 4, Dead Cells, The Wonderful 101, etc). So, I have a lot of games on my plate right now. And even more coming soon. I have lots pre-ordered too, that all come out in the coming months. So, I need to get gaming harder soon.

Crash Bandicoot 2 (Switch)Ori and the Blind Forest (Switch)Journey of a Broken Circle (Switch)Vs. Excitebike (Switch)Yoshi’s Crafted World (Switch)Duck Tales Remastered (Xbox 360)Fez (Xbox 360)NiGHTS into dreams… (Xbox 360)

Sega Genesis Mini- Phantasy Star IVPS4- Street Fighter VSwitch- Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter Generations, and Smash Bros Ultimate.

I just bought Bravely Default for my 3DS so that’s what I’m playing this weekend. I’m loving it so far. I might play Luigi’s Mansion 3 tonight just because it’s Halloween, but we will see.

Ni no kuni.
I found it for sale at a great price on the eshop, so I was reluctant as the deepest discounts are usually done on rubbish games (with the exception of Supergiant’s titles and few others). But my curiosity won over my doubts and I got it. Well, I totally love it, it’s like playing an anime!
I think I’ll get the physical version too.

I finished Tales of Vesperia a couple of days ago! Now I’ve started Ni No Kuni, and I’m trying to 100% complete Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I’ve still got to finish Ys Origin but honestly, it has been a little bit of a drag lately.

Animal crossing for the halloween content. Pumpkin jack, Grid autosport, I also got ghostbusters remastered for 8 bux so might start that too.

Some Ring Fit Adventure, so long as my body is ready. Also hoping to start Isle of Armour on Pokémon Sword. Maybe some Splatfest too.

Might get into the Splatoon 2 Splatfest and start Pikmin 3 Deluxe but on the XB1 front I’ll continue with MCC building up season points so Season 4 can be completed day 1 (it starts close to Age of Calamity’s launch).

Continuing to play Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey ReduxI love this game. Perfect to play while having a good horror movie in the background. Also, playing some Dementium Remastered and Creeping Terror.

Been running through NMH since it dropped this last week. Will be trying the Hyrule Warriors demo. Picked up WALLACHIA last night and thought I don’t like the tall and skinny character style, the gameplay and level design are solid. Will probably play some RE4 and Dawn of Sorrow for good measure. HAPPY HALLOWEEN everybody!

Nintendo Switch, Resident Evil, Control
