Following the launch of the final Battlefield V update earlier this year, Battlefield fans don’t currently know much about the future of the franchise. After all, EA has said that they don’t plan on releasing a new game this year. However, much of the Battlefield series did recently come to Steam, and now, Battlefield Steam achievements are also available.
Around two months ago, prior to the launch of the final Battlefield V update, EA released much of the Battlefield franchise on Steam for the first time. Battlefield V, Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Battlefield 1, Battlefield Hardline, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 all came to the platform. (Until then, they had only been available on PC exclusively via Origin.) However, at the time, none of the games had Steam achievements available.
Earlier today, DICE announced on social media that PC players; “can now get achievements for Battlefield V, 1, 4, 3, and Hardline on Steam”. This is the first new content to arrive for a Battlefield game since the Battlefield V summer update. That update, which fell below the normal expectations for a Tides of War chapter, heralded the end of active development for Battlefield V after almost two years. Notably, it also came during what Activision had called “Battlefield V Year Two”; thus signalling a change of plans regarding ongoing post-launch content.
Although Activision has indicated that Battlefield 6 will be launching sometime next year, Battlefield fans are still in for a long wait, especially given that Battlefield V is a few years old now. Fans seem to be hopeful that the long wait will equate to a better end product. Although Battlefield V’s post-launch content managed to give the game a second life, its launch was certainly troubled. In order to win fans over with a new release, it makes sense to take plenty of time. (Especially with the opportunity to take advantage of next-gen hardware.)
