As we well know, Jupiter is the largest planet in our Solar System: it has twice the mass of Saturn and 300 times the mass of the Earth. However, there are planets that would make even Jupiter pale, such as the recent discovery of scientists, who have sighted a world three times more massive.
Is called Kepler-88 d. The Kepler-88 system is already at the center of the study for two other planets that have been discovered there, called Kepler-88 b and c respectively. Planet b is smaller than Neptune and orbits the star in just 11 days, the other, instead, orbits every 22 days, and has the same mass as our Jupiter.
An interesting phenomenon at stake in the system has to do with drastic changes in the orbital times of the internal planet. These changes are called changes in transit time: the precise times in which Kepler-88 b crosses the star, during the observations, can go up to half a day early or late.
The discovery of the new planet in the system adds another degree of understanding of why the transit of internal planets varies so widely. The huge planet Kepler-88 d, in fact, is presumably more influential in the history of its system than in Kepler-88 c, which is the size of Jupiter. In our solar system, however, Jupiter had a greater influence in the development of other planets, including Earth.
