Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart will allow PS5 players to switch between display frequencies of 30 ips and 60 ips. However, the higher refresh rate will not work with 4K.
Resulting from a project that started in 2018, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is a Third Person Shooter and Platformer video game developed by Insomniac Games. His most recent public appearance dates from 28 last august. During Gamescon : Opening Night Live 2020, a gameplay video has actually been uploaded. The event was also an opportunity for our colleagues from Famitsu.com to interview Marcus Smith, creative director, as well as the main designer of the title, Mike Daly.
Thanks to this interview, we now know a lot more about the graphics of Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart.
Just like the Xbox Series X, la PlayStation 5 will be particularly powerful. Its computing power is supposed to exceed 10 Teraflops. Part of the titles that will be available with the release of the new machine from Sony, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart must therefore be a reference in all areas. But while the console will be able to deliver a 4K display up to 120 Hz, the title published by Sony Interactive Entertainment may disappoint us in the field of display.
During the interview with the media mentioned above, Marcus Smith and Mike Daly have indeed revealed that Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart will offer two refresh options. Players will be able to choose between display frequencies of 30 frames per second and 60 frames per second. However, to enjoy 4K, it will be necessary to opt for the frequency of 30 Hz. The second option will only work with "a lower resolution".
Remember that the first version of the game released on PS2 in 2002 sported a display clocked at 60 Hz. A rate that Insomniac intentionally reduced to 30 Hz on the PS3 to provide better graphics.
Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart won't be the only PlayStation game, however 5 to offer these rather disconcerting graphics settings. Spider-Man: Miles Morales, another flagship title in development at Insomniac Games, will offer similar options. Ditto for the Demon’s Souls remake.
This may disappoint some, of course, but the interest of a security is obviously not limited to its refresh rate. And Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart will offer an original gameplay. Enough to make us forget this slight pitfall.
