The removal of Pikmin 3 from the Wii U eShop caused a bit of controversy back when Pikmin 3 Deluxe was announced for Switch in early August. Due to the large price difference between the versions, it didn’t seem very consumer-friendly of Nintendo to completely delist the original $19.99 priced game on Wii U, forcing you to pay $59.99 for the Switch port.
Luckily, it seems the original Pikmin 3 is back for sale on the Wii U eShop in North America, Europe, and Japan. Available again for the “Nintendo Select” sale price of $19.99, it’s unknown why the game was removed in the first place, or if it will be removed again closer to the launch of Pikmin 3 Deluxe.
DelistedGames reports that the listing may have actually returned in late August, seemingly unnoticed previously.
I mean did the backslash worked? Was it a mistake? Will it be retaken away? I’m so confused.
I’m glad it happened. I’m just curious how many people will actually buy this instead of the Switch version
Probably few but I bet there will still be people who do. I just bought a PS Vita a few months ago, by all accounts a dead system but I’ve been buying digital games regularly and been disappointed regularly by games that have been removed long ago and only available physically for marked up prices. I’m sure there a people buying second hand Wii Us still and combing through games on the eShop (it’s much cheaper than getting a Switch after all).
I was surprised when people didn’t care about this getting removed in the first place. It’s a bad precedent all around.
I agree the removal was a bad idea. It did nothing but generate bad publicity for Nintendo. Removing it wouldn’t have funnelled any extra sales to the Switch version and leaving it there doesn’t detract any sales from the Switch version. I voiced that same opinion when the news first broke. I think most people were of the opinion it was in poor form even if the consumer impact would have been negligible .
They might get a few Wii U sales after all now since the controversy highlighted the Wii U game for a while.
I’m not sure how big the second-hand Wii U market is, since they’re not really being sold cheap enough to justify getting it instead of the Switch. As far as games prices go, that would truly be the only advantage.
I actually wanted a Vita myself to play the games I got from PS+, my PSOne games, and some PSP ones. But, alas, it’s just too expensive in Brazil.
They did the same thing with Tropical Freeze, I believe. Not sure about the other ports.
Yeah, I can’t see it being huge. I do know of one person who was wanting a Wii U for his birthday coming up…my 6 year old nephew who wanted one so he could play 3D World. Guess he isn’t going to care for one any more!
PS Vita is really cool though! It’s a shame they’re expensive over there. It deserved better than Sony treated it, it’s a much nicer handheld than the 3DS was but it just didn’t get the support. Worth getting one if they ever drop in price, they still hold up well today!
I’m actually curious about how many will backlash this again given that they now have another chance to get it.
here goes my deluded theory about galaxy 3 with galaxy 1 and 2 being available april 1st.
When even Arlo is calling Nintendo out for being petty, you know it was a classless act and bad PR. But fair play to them for putting it back up. Now, they just need to re-add Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze to the Wii U eShop.
World news – GB – Pikmin 3 has been relisted on the Wii U eShop, available again for $19.99
