The Nioh 2 1.17 update patch notes add support for the Darkness in the Capital DLC, the second expansion coming to the game on October 15. But even though that support is the bulk of this patch, there are other things in store.
With this update, Nioh 2 owners will be able to play Darkness in the Capital when it releases. This expansion adds a new weapon type, yokai, difficulty, Onmyo magic, ninjutsu, missions, and more. There are 13 new trophies to collect.
Team Ninja has only given a few hints about the story. However, it involves the protagonist going to Kyoto and then, well, time traveling. It’s unusual but that will mean new monsters to slay.
The official patch notes just say “adjusted game balance” (and some various bug fixes). But some have been able to figure out some of those changes. For one, there is a new menu on the Kodama Shrine called the Stone of Penance where you can upgrade accessories. This will allow enemies to have better drop rates but will also strengthen them in the process, making it quite the risk and reward. A small tutorial will pop up when you first go into the Shrine and will say:
“Surrender an accessory of your choosing to receive a Stone of Penance. Increase the Stone’s Penitence by defeating enemies and use it to strengthen your surrendered accessory.”
This update also has new avatar parts (hairstyles, body art, and such) and Hokkaido clans. Some have also stated that using magic is a little faster now. We will update this as we find more.
