NEW DELHI, 29 July (IANS) : after a long period of investigation, Indian astronomers have found a theoretical explanation for an intriguing stratum, because an official statement said on Thursday that the shape of the Sun's rotation was changing sharply

It has long been known that the Sun's equator rotates faster than the poles, however, a quick examination of the Sun's internal rotation using sound waves revealed an interesting layer where the shape of its rotation changes sharply This is called the near-surface shear layer (NSSL), and it is very close to the surface of the Sun, where there is a decrease in angular velocity outward.

Understanding the NSSL is essential for studying many solar phenomena such as sunspot formation and the solar cycle., and it will also help to understand these phenomena in other stars

The Aryabhata Research Institute for Observational Sciences (ARIES), an independent institute of the Center's Department of Science and Technology, researcher Peputi Kumar Jha and chief scientist of the Indian Institute of Science, Professor Arnab Rai Chowdhury, have for the first time given a theoretical explanation of the existence of NSSL in the Sun p>

In their study published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, they used an equation called the thermal wind equilibrium equation to explain how the slight temperature difference between the solar poles and the equator, called thermal winds, is balanced by the centrifugal force that appears due to the solar differential rotation

“Most scientists believe this condition is only true inside the Sun., and it does not stand near the surface of the Sun. In this work, the authors have shown that this belief is in fact present near the surface as well », the statement from the Ministry of Science and Technology said
