Des scientifiques du Centre international de recherche en radioastronomie (également connu sous le nom d’ICRAR) et de l’Université d’Australie-Occidentale (UWA) ont établi le record du monde de la transmission la plus stable de signaux laser à travers l’atmosphère

Dans une étude récente sur Nature Communications, Australian researchers joined forces with researchers from the French National Center for Space Studies (CNES) and the French measurement laboratory known as Time-Space Reference Systems (SYRTE) of the Paris Observatory

The team succeeded in setting a new world record by combining Australian phase stabilization technology and high-tech self-guided optical nodes (terminals). The two awarded signals are sent from point to point without any kind of interference from the transmission medium (Terrestrial antenna jacket)

L’auteur principal Benjamin Dicks Matthews, ICRAR and UWA doctoral student, said this technology works by eliminating atmospheric turbulence.

“We can correct three-dimensional turbulence, that is to say on the left, to the right, up and down and decisively along the route [] It is as if the moving atmosphere has been suppressed and it does not allow us to transmit very stable laser signals through the atmosphere while preserving the quality of the original signal.

The results are of great importance as the technology can also be implemented in earth sciences and geophysics

Optical communications can reliably transmit data between satellites and our planet at much better transmission rates than current wireless communications
