A project published on the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform promises bring Android Auto wirelessly to any car, using only one small device that you can connect directly to your vehicle.
His name is AAWireless, and its operation is extremely simple: you only need connect it to your car’s USB port, and through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth it will give you the possibility of use Android Auto in your car no need for cables.
As its creators explain, the final device –today is in the prototype phase– will have dimensions of only 5 x 5 x 3 centimeters. Inside, there are –among other things– chips for connectivity Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
In this way, once connected to the car, AAWireless generates a wireless signal capable of replacing the USB cable, so that it will be possible to connect our mobile and start using Android Auto. Their software is based on Linux, and they explain that in the future device will receive OTA updates, in addition to having an app available on Google Play from which to control the adapter parameters.
The mind behind this idea is that of Emil Borconi-Szedressy, who several years ago carried out a similar project, in which a secondary Android device to enable Android Auto operation without the need for a USB cable. He is also the developer of some of the best apps for Android Auto.
According to the team behind AAWireless, since they need test the device on as many hardware as possible To maximize its compatibility – it should work with any mobile updated to a version of Android 9 or higher -, the goal established in the collective financing process is to $ 185,000, of which have already been achieved more than 100,000 at the time of publishing this article, with 44 days remaining until the deadline.
In that sense, the price of AAWireless is 46 euros during this first phase, and they hope to make the first shipments from December of this year.
