Marantz is another consumer electronics company that’s not been idle during this strange year of pandemic lockdowns. Today it has announced a new 8K surround AV pre-amplifier. The Marantz AV7706 is a home cinema monster that has 11.2 channel XLR and RCA pre-outs and is designed to work as the bedrock of any high-end system home theater and music system.
The AV7706 is designed to be paired with a high-quality external amplifier, such as the Marantz MM8077, MM7055 and MM7025. Not only is the AV7706 a high-end AV processor, but it’s also a very capable analog preamplifier with optimal channel separation, minimum crosstalk and an enhanced signal-to-noise ratio for great resolution and stereo imaging.
Marantz has used ELNA capacitors and other high-end electronic components in the analog and digital section of the AV7706 for extended power and dynamic ability when playing audio from physical sources like record players or CD payers, as well as digitally streamed media.

The new AV7706 has lots of options when it comes to connecting video sources. There are eight HDMI inputs and three HDMI outputs. One of those HDMI inputs is dedicated to 8K video and supports 8K/60Hz or 4K/120Hz pass-through capability. The other inputs can all support up to 4K/60Hz and 4:4:4 Pure Color sub-sampling, Dolby Vision, HLG, HDR10, 3D, BT 2020 pass-through and the latest HDCP 2.3 copy protection standard.
Enthusiasts can boost their viewing experience with support for HDR10+, Dynamic HDR, auto low latency mode (ALLM), variable refresh rate (VRR), quick media switching (QMS), and quick frame transport (QFT) support on all inputs. The video processor is also capable of upscaling any native video source up to 8K quality. Also, the AV7706 features HDMI eARC with supports for 3D audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.
The AV7706 has a dedicated pre-amplifier board with Marantz Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module (HDAM) technology that has an ultra-fast slew rate, true wideband performance and maximum dynamic range for optimum sound quality. The analog pre-amplifier stage has a shielded power supply. For high fidelity, wide dynamic range and low distortion, the AV7706 uses advanced reference-class 32-bit AKM D/A converters on all its channels, converting digital signals fed from the two powerful Sharc Griffin Lite DSPs before sending the signal on to the AV7706’s analog domain.
Vinyl lovers haven’t been forgotten as there’s a phono EQ stage equipped with the Marantz HDAMs to handle the analog signal at high-speed while maintaining a clean audio signal for improved sound performance. Marantz claims the phono stage protects the character of analog music and its realism. Additionally, Marantz says that AV7706 can reproduce every note exactly as the artist intended or the movie sound design engineer created from the silent moments to the massive action.
