Lidl has teased the release of its 2020 Christmas advert ahead its debut airing during the Late Late Show tonight.
The supermarket chain posted the advert, which features toy elves giving a Lidl store a festive makeover after dark, on its Instagram before it airs during Ireland’s most watched programme this evening.
The advert is part of a cross-platform campaign for TV, social, digital, radio and press was created by Gerry McBridge and James Carr of BBDO Dublin with the animators at Piranha Bar.

Copy writer Gerry McBride said the song featured in the advert was taken from 1960s musical MAME, which featured Angela Lansbury in its Broadway run and Lucille Ball in the movie adaptation.
He said the musical’s lead character ‘celebrates Christmas early because she needed cheering up and couldn’t wait.
‘With the year we’ve had, we figured it would be a great song for the Elves to sing and during recording, they wanted to change “little Christmas” to “Lidl Christmas”. They’re difficult to argue with.’
BBDO account director for Lidl Sinead Lee said the agency wanted to create something ‘truly magical’ that would ‘showcase the quality of Lidl’s range while putting a smile on people’s faces.
‘Between ourselves and Piranha Bar, we have created a visual feast that gives you something new every time you watch it. Customising a well-loved Christmas song gives the whole thing real memorability.’
Lidl Ireland head of communications and marketing Aoife Clarke said: ‘We’ve been working on this for a while, so Christmas really came early for us.
‘We know that 2020 has been quite the year, and we can’t wait to share a Lidl magic with everyone now the season is properly underway. We’d like to thank all the Elves who make Christmas at Lidl so special.’
