We can never say it enough, macOS is a secure environment that keeps scrutinizing the software on your Mac. However, when security becomes ubiquitous, we come to hallucinating situations like this… AppleInsider discovered that for several days, of macOS users complain that an HP driver and even Amazon Music are considered malware.
For several days, countless macOS users report a very annoying bug on the forums. Indeed, security alert targets Amazon Music software and HP printer driver. If the first is less serious since it is possible to go through the web version to listen to music, the second handicap are companies that can no longer print.
Apple requires Mac users “XProtect”, this system is part of Gatekeeper which consists of identifying and blocking malware that only wants one thing… infect your Mac !
However, Apple's security system has reportedly been failing for several days since it cannot distinguish between an official HP driver and official Amazon software.
What is criticized by Apple's security system is the driver “HPDeviceMonitoring.framework”, except that what is delicate is that this driver is essential to start a document printing. Result, many companies in the world (but also individuals) are hampered in their professional activity.
The resulting message warns that this item may damage the Mac, while it is completely wrong…
The only solution to continue printing from your Mac to an HP printer is to go through the protocol “AirPrint” which does not use the famous driver blocked by Apple XProtect.
It is impossible to override the blockage, each time you press “OK” you will come back to the same message 10 seconds later.
On the Amazon side, l’application “Amazon Music” would be completely blocked on macOS, from the opening !
A similar message appears and blocks thousands of users who can no longer access the streaming service. In this second situation, the best solution is to connect to music.amazon.fr in order to find all your playlists.
Of course, this is not a voluntary act by Apple, but rather a problem of management and recognition of the macOS security system. The Cupertino company has so far not reacted to this little scandal that grows with each passing hour.
