It’s been more than a year now since we heard about HongMeng OS (or also known as HarmonyOS). Up until now, it was speculated to be the replacement for Huawei’s smartphones lineup but nothing really happened and it was revealed to be made more for the company’s ecosystem instead. But recently, Huawei Consumer Business Software President Wang Chengju revealed that HongMeng OS 2.0 is expected to be released in December 2020.
According to a post on Weibo, the Software President reported that the OS is progressing quite well. Should the research and development go well, the software could be ready at the end of 2020 as scheduled. A beta version is expected to open on 18 December, then rolling out to selected smartphones in January or February, followed by a verification process then a full-upgrade in a few months. He also mentioned that more than 90% of their devices can be upgraded to HongMeng OS 2.0.
HongMeng OS 2.0 would be Huawei’s answer to the lack of Google Mobile Services as a new ecosystem. So not only would it be for Huawei (and HONOR) smartphones, but a wide variety of products including smart TVs, cars, tablets, and many more. We should be seeing it on the Mate 40 series first but they have yet to announce its arrival and availability globally.
What do you think of this? And would you give HongMeng OS 2.0 a try if given a chance? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
