The French manufacturer comes to rub shoulders with Bose, Apple and Sony launch their first pair of True Wireless headphones in an already saturated market.
Devialet to enter the arena of True Wireless headphones. The French audio specialist has chosen this time to direct its offer towards the general public. Positioning is always upscale, but we are far from the Expert amp 1000 Pro Dual to more than 20 000€ or the famous Phantom speaker near 3 000€.
The new Gemini wireless headphones will be offered at € 299 in France, an almost reasonable price when you know the brand, but which still remains higher than its direct competitors, we think of AirPods Pro, to Sony WF-XM3 and Bose QC Earsbuds. The style is conventional, but on the first images that circulate, they seem relatively discreet with a rather modest size, at least compared to what Sony and Bose are doing. It will obviously be necessary to wait for a grip to decide on the comfort and the holding.
Given the reputation of Devialet, the wait is particularly strong on the audio part. They incorporate a technology called "Pressure Balanced Architecture" which is supposed to manage the pressure in the ear to ensure optimal rendering, a system similar to what some competitors do. To achieve this, "cascade decompression chambers" have been integrated with acoustic insulation on each occasion. Devialet also plays the adaptive sound card with "Ear Active Matching", a function that relies on integrated microphones to analyze external sounds in real time and thus adapt audio rendering and active noise reduction to the context.
For the rest of the characteristics, Devialet announces good autonomy of 6 hours with noise reduction and 8 hours without. The box allows you to make more than 3 times the battery is full, it is also compatible with Qi wireless charging. Bluetooth side, headphones are compatible with AAC codecs, SBC, aptX and use the standard 5.0, in short, everything you can expect from headphones of this caliber.
Will it be enough to compete with Apple, Sony or Sennheiser ? This is what we will see. In any case, the brand, who took a long time to get started, will have to work hard to establish itself in a growing market, certainly, but already saturated (there are hundreds of references at all prices now) and ultra dominated from a commercial point of view by the Californian giant Apple. Pre-orders will start on Saturday 10 October with availability for the end of November.
