This morning Microsoft announced the acquisition of ZeniMax and with this it became the owner of the current and upcoming Bethesda Softworks franchises. For this reason, it is striking that a source claims that Sony was negotiating with Bethesda for a temporary exclusivity of Starfield
The thing is, Imran Khan, a former Game Informer journalist, said on Twitter that his sources informed him that Sony had been seeking temporary exclusivity from Starfield. As far as you know, these are talks that took place in recent months.
In the tweet, Khan noted that he does not know if the talks are « over » or if the agreement between Microsoft and Bethesda will cause any possible deal with Sony to greatly increase its possible price.
FUN NOTE: Sony had been negotiating timed exclusivity on Starfield as recently as a few months ago. Going to guess either those talks are done or the price suddenly went way, way up.
We remind you that Starfield is the next Bethesda Game Studios project, which will arrive before The Elder Scrolls VI. This project promises to be an epic space adventure that takes us through various emotions.
Now the big question is, should you believe this information? In our opinion, it is very likely real for a couple of reasons.
The first is that in recent months it has become clear that Sony’s strategy for the next generation of consoles is to strike deals that allow it to have a lot of temporary exclusives. In fact, we’ve already seen him close temporary exclusivity deals with Betheda with projects like Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo.
On the other hand, over the years Khan has proven to be a connected source within the video game industry. Of course, the reality is that you could also have received wrong information, so you should not take it as a fact either.
Starfield was announced at E3 2018 and is still in development. You can learn more about this project by clicking here.
