It appears that seven-time 212 Olympia champion James “Flex” Lewis is out of the 2020 Olympia. The former 212 divisional kingpin broke the unfortunate news on his Instagram account.

After Dominating the 212 division for seven straight years, Flex Lewis hoped to make his highly anticipated debut in the Open Bodybuilding category. 2020 has been packed with some pretty trying circumstances and this turn of events only compounded things for Flex Lewis.

With the return of Phil Heath, Shawn Rhoden, and Brandon Curry holding the crown, this year’s event is set to be one of the biggest Olympias ever. Unfortunately for Flex Lewis, he will miss out on the festivities this year.

With a heavy heart and much trepidation, Flex Lewis explains the circumstances in the Instagram video below.

Anyone who knows me, knows I work hard and suffer in silence. I am used to telling myself to “suck it up” on the hard dig deep days of prep, with the mentality of all gas no breaks. On this occasion it took my wife to step in and say something to me! This was the first time in 8yrs Ali Lewis has spoken up so needless to say my blinkers came on. It was only a few days later, that I was trying to fight my coach Neil Hill and Ali’s decision about pulling out of the Mr. Olympia.

Since my first show at 19 years old, bodybuilding has been my life. In that time Neil has been with me for every single show. We have never pulled out of any show.
I can tell story’s about competing with injuries, being sick, heck one show I got conjunctivitis and I was blind on stage. Pulling out? Not a thought!!!

So making this decision with my team was not easy for me. I fought it hard, and I still struggle with it, I be lying if I said different. But I am in a good metal state and I am staying positive about all this.

I want to wish every athlete who is to compete at this very special Mr. Olympia the very very best. This is going to be one of the most unique and craziest shows in history.
What a show!!!! Good luck lads.

Devastation – Would be one word to describe my last three weeks. Anyone who knows me, knows I work hard and suffer in silence. This is a #Fuck2020 storyline for me, that can be added to many others this year! – I will be shooting a secondary video to let everyone what’s the next steps are in rehab and my journey back to the stage

Lewis later when on to confirm that he continued to battle through his injury and said he’ll reveal the cause of injury in an upcoming video. He also confirmed that his wife and coach Neil Hill reasoned with him on the decision. Ultimately, Lewis went on to see doctors about his condition and made the decision to end his training for Mr. Olympia 2020. The Generation Iron team wishes Flex Lewis a speedy recovery after this unfortunate news.
