The trailer for A Christmas Gift From Bob has finally dropped, giving us all a much needed dose of festive cheer.
The first film, A Street Cat Named Bob – based on the incredibly successful book series by James Bowen – was an instant success when it was released in 2016.
It followed the exploits of adorable cat Bob, and his bond with former addict James (Luke Treadaway).
And, months after the moggy died, we have been blessed with a teaser for the sequel, which explores their ‘last Christmas they spent scraping a living on the streets’.
‘Last Christmas, me and Bob worked on the streets,’ a voiceover from the singer says, as we seem him struggling to make ends meet.
Things go from bad to worse, as a member of the animal welfare team attempts to separate the pair, taking Bob into custody.
‘You can’t take him away from me,’ James begs, while the employee states that his actions are in the cat’s ‘best interests’.
‘If a guy who works on the streets is being separated from his cat at Christmas, it’s got to be done by the book,’ his colleague urges, as fans launch a campaign to keep them together.
A Christmas Gift From Bob is based on James’ book from his successful franchise, and flew up the charts when it was initially released in 2014.
The synopsis reads: ‘In this new story of their journey together, James looks back at the last Christmas they spent scraping a living on the streets and how Bob helped him through one of his toughest times – providing strength, friendship and inspiration but also teaching him important lessons about the true meaning of Christmas along the way.’
James first met Bob in 2007 when he was busking in Covent Garden, finding the ginger cat in the hallway of his building.
The book’s official Facebook page shared a touching statement from James on his beloved pet’s death, in which he said: ‘Bob saved my life. It’s as simple as that. He gave me so much more than companionship.
‘The success we achieved together through our books and films was miraculous. He’s met thousands of people, touched millions of lives.
‘There’s never been a cat like him. And never will again. I feel like the light has gone out in my life. I will never forget him.’
A Christmas Gift From Bob will be in UK cinemas and on demand on November 6, 2020.
