Britain’s Got Talent judge Ashley Banjo has publicly addressed the show’s work stoppage due to a COVID-19 scare.

ITV announced earlier this week that it would suspend filming on BGT’s Christmas special because three members of the crew had tested positive for the virus.

Banjo and his fellow judges have subsequently had to self-isolate as a safety precaution, meaning he could only join a previously-scheduled One Show appearance on Friday (October 16) live video from home.

I’ve just kind of been taking the precautions since earlier in the week,” he explained. “When you realise there are a few positive tests around, it’s always safe just to keep away and make sure it’s okay.

His fellow Diversity member Jordan Banjo pointed out that it was a necessity for Ashley to isolate, since he could risk exposing the entire group.

The format of the special is to include classic Britain’s Got Talent acts from the past returning for a festive reunion, but production cannot go forward until ITV deems it safe.

As a result of a positive COVID-19 result received yesterday we have implemented our protocols and a number of crew members are self-isolating at home,” a BGT spokesperson said this week.

“As a result, we are unable to continue filming our BGT Christmas Special today and have taken the decision to postpone.

The safety of all those involved in the show is our number one priority and we follow extensive COVID-19 related procedures to adhere to all Government guidelines.
