Clubhouse may have taken the world by storm in the past year, but its rivals are quickly working on competing services, like the Twitter and Fireside spaces According to a leaked image posted to Twitter, Instagram is reportedly working on a new feature «Audio rooms»

The supposed functionality of the image-sharing platform was first spotted on Twitter after leaking mobile developer Alessandro Paluzzi posted two screenshots in a tweet earlier today. Features were probably enabled via reverse engineering of the app to enable hidden strings, suggesting that the functionality is still at an early stage.

In Paluzzi’s first screenshot, the Direct Messages section of the Instagram app displays a third microphone icon to the left of the Dial and Video Call buttons at the top left of the app The second screenshot shows a “Loading»Next to their user profile at the bottom of the screen and a microphone icon and a cross, presumably to mute and unmute the sound and leave the audio room

However, it looks like audio rooms aren't the only feature Instagram seems to be working on Paluzzi then tweeted another image indicating that the Facebook-owned app may be working on end-to-end encryption for some of its threads. The feature will likely appear when users try to start a new chat and is represented by a label “Start an end-to-end encrypted chat” above the contact name.

The arrival of end-to-end encryption on Instagram is the next step in Facebook's plans to bring its chat services together This decision was previously announced by the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, years ago, when he said the company was planning to make their chat services interoperable.

The company plans to do this by merging the chat services «backend» des DM Instagram, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp Messenger to be interoperable so that service users can talk to each other. However, End-to-end encryption development may still be in its early stages and it is currently unclear when it will finally be deployed.
