Activision's financial results were released yesterday. Dennis Durkin, the current Group CFO, took the floor to comment on the last fiscal quarter. And if there was obviously something to be happy about the past few months, especially, remarkable performance for Call of Duty, the future promises to be bright too. Indeed, a new episode of the Call of Duty franchise will be launched at the end of the year but that will not be all. The American publisher also plans to tap into its license catalog to offer 2 new games.
Very quickly looking to the future, Denis Durkin made no secret of Activision's ambitions. The American company will naturally count on these house licenses and Call of Duty will obviously be a big piece. The next title in the series sees its development progress and should arrive at the end of the year 2020. A speech which confirms the previous information shared last February and which therefore draws an exit between October and December of this year. Of course, the man did not fail to recall in passing how "the next premium version of Call of Duty is already very promising".
According to the latest information collected, Activision has largely revised its plans for this upcoming Call of. Following internal conflicts, the publisher would thus have redistributed the development load to Treyarch in place of Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software. This would have precipitated the release of a new episode of Black Ops which would take the form of a reboot. In the style of Modern Warfare, Treyarch could offer a new vision of what the series should be. To take obviously as rumors for now, but the program is attractive.
Finally, ce supposé Call of Duty Black Ops 5 will naturally be cross-generation. In other words, the shooter developed by Treyarch will be available on Xbox One and PS4 but also on Xbox Series X and PS5. Obviously, a PC version is also programmed.
Parallèlement à Call of Duty, Activision therefore plans to release 2 other titles. These games will not be new licenses since the publisher will draw on its already existing catalog.
Regarding the second semester, our calendar includes a new premium Call of Duty title, two releases based on our extensive catalog of intellectual property Activision, et l’extension Shadowlands de Blizzard pour World of Warcraft
Bien naturellement les possibilités sont nombreuses tant le catalogue est vaste. Last February, the man also announced several resmaster or reboot to come. From Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered has arrived and many rumors now speak of Modern Warfare 3.
On another side, the outings of Spyro Reignited and Crash Team Racing were tremendous successes last year. With over 10 million copies sold for Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Activision must no doubt be thinking of a marsupial return. With a new episode at stake ?
To finish, we must also remember that a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater return is becoming more and more concrete. Various Skateboarders have already mentioned it, like Jason Dill just recently.
We bet that we will learn more soon., probably during the many summer events planned. Activision is indeed a partner of the IGN Summer of Gaming but also of the brand new Summer Game Fest. So there will probably be announcements to follow !
