This Tuesday, Apple unveiled the new iPhone 12 Series with a few premieres for the flagship line-up, the most important being the integration of 5G connectivity. The company also announced it’s bringing MagSafe to iPhones, an intelligent system of magnets on the back of the device that connects accessories, like a wallet, in a whole new way.
Besides making charging the device a lot easier, MagSafe allows users to connect accessories like MagSafe Cases and the MagSafe Wallet to the iPhone a lot easier.
The MagSafe wallet snaps onto the back of the iPhone magnetically, and also works on top of MagSafe cases. And now you are probably thinking: “Won’t that damage my NFC cards?” Apple says it won’t.
The Cupertino-based company said that “the leather wallet is shielded so it’s safe for credit cards.” The shield in question protects both Low Coercivity (LoCo) and High Coercivity (HiCo) cards. LoCo would be cards like hotel keys and gift cards and HiCo refers to credit cards. Smartphones already have magnets packed in which tend to demagnetize LoCo cards, so these types of cards don’t really stand a chance.
The new iPhone MagSafe leather wallet is priced at $59.99 and is available in four color options – Baltic Blue, California Poppy, Saddle Brown, and Black.
