We knew Red Hook Studios was making a sequel to Darkest Dungeon, didn’t we? Don’t tell me I’m the only one who let that tidbit slip. They can’t hurt me or my heroes if I don’t acknowledge them!
The studio is back today with a more substantial (but still very teaser-y) trailer for Darkest Dungeon 2, along with news that the tough roguelike RPG will debut on the Epic Games Store in 2021. There’s a sparse landing page on the Epic Store with verbiage that could definitely apply to the original game.
In a follow-up tweet, Red Hook said the 1.0 version will also launch on “other PC storefronts.” If you’re wondering about possible console ports, no word yet, but I’m sure they’ll eventually come to fruition.
As for the trailer, it’s weirdly cozy in a world-ending sort of way. Apart from the staple narration, we’re also getting a peek at the now-very-much-3D character models, which I’ve grabbed screencaps of below. I’m curious to see how these classes will look in the full context of Darkest Dungeon 2.
“Has been a really cool experience working with our character modelers Kevin and Jordan to sculpt these 3D canvases for me to draw on,” said Red Hook co-founder Chris Bourassa. “Preserves the game’s signature art style/hand-drawn quality while allowing us to push animation and VFX.”
