EA and developer Respawn Entertainment have announced that Apex Legends has been delayed on Nintendo Switch.

The game was originally planned to launch on the console this fall alongside its release on Steam (which will be happening on 4th November), but has sadly been pushed back to next year. Chad Grenier, Game Director on Apex Legends, has shared the following:

“For those who game on the Nintendo Switch, we’re still hard at work on the port, but in order to do justice to the game and make it into the great experience Switch players deserve, our team needs more time. This year has brought on unexpected new challenges, to put it mildly, and we don’t want to rush anything out.

Switch owners can expect to get their hands on Apex Legends next year. And of course, when Apex Legends does launch on Switch, it’ll come with support for cross-platform play, our latest seasonal content, and full feature parity with the other versions of the game.

We can’t wait to get Apex Legends into your hands (or your TV-connected dock) on Switch.”

Back in June, Respawn said that the Switch port was “looking really good and running very well”, while simultaneously calling its development “a big challenge”.

We’ll make sure to keep an eye out for more news on a new release window as and when it gets announced.

Ryan can list the first 151 Pokémon all in order off by heart – a feat he calls his ‘party trick’ despite being such an introvert that he’d never be found anywhere near a party. He’d much rather just have a night in with Mario Kart and a pizza, and we can’t say we blame him.

@HotGoomba Yeah, Respawn has been pretty good with putting out high quality stuff. Fallen Order was really great and I had fun with the little bit of apex I’ve played.

I never heard of Apex Legends coming to switch anyways until now. I know the game but didn’t know about this.

I’m not a huge fan of FPS or battle royale games Apex is one of the biggest games put so of course it is great to know Switch will have it.

What’s up guys? Today we will be teaching you how to get Apex Legends on Android.

I was thinking about this just the other day, as I recently started playing Titanfall 2 (they’re set in the same universe) and I’m loving it to bits. Oh well, I’ll play a lot of TF2 in the meantime.

Fair play. Always better to delay and try to improve, than to launch in a lesser state and attempt to patch later.

I can’t put my finger on why, but I’m not expecting much from this. If I’m wrong then fine. Maybe it highlights how much work on their image EA have to do (for me) towards Switch owners. FIFA doesn’t help. Burnout was a great step forward and hope this carries on.

I don’t care about this game, but I will always appreciate a developer delaying a game to get it right on Day 1 as opposed to having to download a Day 1 patch bigger than the game’s file itself just to make it decently playable, or even worse, wait for that patch weeks later.

Calling it now, this will be scrapped completely. EA has an agenda against Nintendo, always has, always will….who cares anyway?

I’d love them to work on Titanfall 2 next, such an overlooked gem of a game that does FPS RIGHT.

though knowing EA they would charge £50 for it when it’s £5-£15 on everything else and gamers would ignore it.

@JokerCK At this point that’s the only possible reasonThe game’s been out for a year and a half I’m not sure how or why the Switch version’s taken this long in the first place
