Ubisoft announced the popular Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game is getting re-released, during the company’s second Ubisoft Forward event of 2020. This new release will feature the original release’s DLC and will be out later this year.

The game was originally released back in 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, but was removed from digital storefronts in 2014. Since then fans and even the creators behind the original comic book have clamored for Ubisoft to bring the game back.

Last month, the creator of the comic tweeted about the lack of news around the popular game on its tenth anniversary and explained it was all up to Ubisoft. At the time there was no concrete information about its return.

Earlier today, Ubisoft’s CEO was featured in a video from the publisher in which he apologized for misconduct that has occurred at the company. In July, following a wave of allegations and reporting, Ubisoft’s chief creative officer and other key figures within the company resigned and changes were made to the internal code of conduct.

In an email to Kotaku, Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley spoke about the reveal of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition. He explained that because of a “communication breakdown” between Ubisoft, Universal, and himself, he wasn’t aware that the re-release had been in development for some time, even after he openly tweeted about wanting one back in August. He wrote:

I guess they (Ubisoft) had been working on it for a while, and people at Universal were supposed to be telling me about it, but there was a communication breakdown. So months ago when Ubi tweeted that emoji at me, that was because their PR people thought I knew about it and was being a tease.

As far as I know it’ll be on all the major consoles. I think a physical release of some sort will happen but deals are still being finalized.

At this point I honestly have very little involvement, other than being a figurehead for the fans. It’s just a historical rerelease of the same game. None of the original creators are working on the rerelease. I don’t make money off the videogame (I never did), but maybe if I’m good they’ll give me some download codes.
